"Call me if you need any help."
"Yes momma, I know but we got this."
"I know y'all do, especially Chrys." She smirked.
"I'm not even going to take that shit to heart because yeen lie." I laughed.
Reality was, Chrysta's maternal instinct showed. As much as I played my part in these two weeks of our son's life, Chrysta was on the ball, with little to no complaints, which was why I had planned what I planned.
"Anyway. Let me not keep y'all back."
Sharing a hug and a kiss, we walked out to the car. Doing the same with Chrysta and the baby, we said our goodbyes before leave. Making the last minute decision to fly rather than drive, I didn't mind either way.
"Mommy and daddy reached home safe."
Glancing in the rear view mirror at her, I gave her my attention and acknowledged her.
"Shanice said she should be able to come visit in two weeks."
"Okay cool."
"Have you gotten your schedule yet?"
"Nah. I gotta meet with my people when we get back."
"Okay cool."
"I don't see any traveling happening though."
"It's fine either way."
"You're okay with that?"
"I mean, it's your job babe."
"I'll mention it. Even if it's interstate."
"Okay."
"You never told me why you changed your mind on driving to Atlanta."
"Honestly. I want to reach faster." She laughed lightly. "That way I can get this little one settled on the routine."
"I understand."
"You don't mind do you?"
"Nah babe. Whatever makes y'all comfortable, I'm all for it."
"You too."
"Me too what?"
"You too being comfortable."
"Oh."
"Babe? I know you want to make sure myself and the baby are comfortable and settled but at the same time, you fall in that bracket too."
"I know but at the same time, he's a newborn and you're recovering from both birth and a minor surgery. As much as I'm a priority as well, y'all are bigger ones."
"Okay."
Glancing at her in the rear view mirror, she was quietly interacting with our son. I knew her 'okay' was to brush me off but I stood by how I felt.
After what felt like hours due to traffic, we made it to the hanger for the private plane. Realizing my son was asleep, I took his carrier from her and walked onto the plane after her. Getting comfortable, the first thing she did was recline her seat.
"Two hours right?"
"Give or take a couple minutes, yeah."
"Okay. Wake me if he gets up."
"I got you."
*******
"This is just."
