Sighing, I shook my head as I got the remote and turned on the tv. Switching to the YouTube app, I found Gracie's Corner and turned it on for my son. Hearing the song that came on, he climbed up on the couch and sat quietly.
"All that fussing and look at you now."
"Gracie, Gracie." He chanted.
Kissing him on his forehead, he smiled. Making my way to the kitchen, I resumed cleaning up. With today being the last day of the year, like always, I made sure my home was clean and that I wasn't going into the new year with any dirty dishes, laundry, energy, etcetera.
"You want some fruit bub?"
Looking back at me, he didn't say anything. It was as though I was disturbing him. Laughing, I got a small bowl and put some grapes, blueberries and pieces of watermelon in it for him. Sitting next to him, he climbed up and stood on the couch.
"Sit love." I patted the seat.
Doing so, he took his bowl and ate, as did I. Dancing and attempting to sing, I laughed lightly as I recorded him, having a time. Sending it to his Godparents, I put my attention back on him.
"Ah wonder where yuh father is?" I questioned as I rubbed his curls.
Aug had been gone for majority of the day and I thought he'd been back by now. Though I wasn't one to question his movements and I was happy that he felt comfortable to move around my country on his own, I was still mindful of him being here and out alone.
"Let's give him a call. Okay?"
Shushing me, I looked at him like he had lost his mind. Shaking my head, I touched Aug's name in my call logs and put it on speaker while I continued eating.
"Yeah baybeh?"
"All is well?"
"Yeah why?"
"Well it's almost seven and not that I mind, but yuh not home and yuh ain't called or messaged me."
"Oh, my bad babe."
"Girl behave eh." I heard in the background.
"Is that my father?"
"Yes it is."
Confused more now than ever, I stared at my phone. Coming back to myself when I heard Aug calling me, I answered him. Letting me know that he will be home shortly, I just said okay and left it at that.
"Even though I can't see you, you know you're cute when you're confused."
"Whatever." I tried not to laugh. "Y'all be safe."
