Keefe sat under the Panakes tree, his blonde stringy hair sticking to his forehead in the sweltering heat. He had seeked shelter after arrving at Havenfield and was currently resting while Edaline insisted on fetching him some sort of drink named Coca-Cola which he had never heard of, apparently it was a drink Sophie had brought back from the human world on one of her more recent missions.
It had been three years since Keefe had graduated from the Gold Towers and he was still gathering the courage to ask Sophie out, even after all these years. Sophie had graduated just a few months ago, but she had been sent on countless missions since her graduation and since they had defeated the Neverseen around 2 years ago. And even after all of that he still hadnt told her. Those worries clouded his mind, so much he didn't see the blonde emerge from the front door. Her worried frown, lifted into a gentle smile at the sight of him. She held in her hand a bottle which contained some sort of dark liquid which swished around the bottle, the wrapping, bright red with smooth white letters printed on the packaging. The bubbles in the liquid looked unpromising.
Sophie was dressed unsurprisingly casual like usual. Her red top and paired with red shorts. She mustve just arrived home, probably after visiting Amy.
She did that often.
She plopped down next to Keefe and handed him the bottle, which was surpisingly icy cold despite the extreme heat. I wiped the sweat bead which had formed on my forehead. I uncapped the lid and mumbled a small thanks before staring down the bottle.
"It's actual pretty good y'know. Anddd.... you could say hello to me before devouring all my drinks. Y'know, it's polite?" She said amusement evident in her tone.
"Yeah." I whispered, my awkwardness fading a bit. "Sorry. I'm just...got a lot on my plate right now."
She stared at me sympathetically. "Haven't got out of the Shores of Solace yet?"
"No, but i'm still looking." I sighed through my nose and sniffed the liquid before taking a small sip of the bitter liquid. I scrunched my nose up at first but then released. It was okay. I took a bigger sip and smiled gratefully at Edaline who had emerged from the house and waved to me enthusiastically.
My energy slightly returned and I said sarcasm dripping in my voice with a small smirk.
"How's the boyfriend?"
Sophie rolled her eyes. "Stop that. All Fitz did was ask for a second chance and you're back at this "Fitzphie" shit."
I shrugged a small sad smile on my lips. "He's a good guy, just got some flaws, but don't we all."
She turned back to me, her breath on my face. "I've kind of got my eye on someone else."
I raised my eyebrows in genuine shock. "Really? Who? What's he like?"
She smirked and rolled her eyes "What's in it for me?"
I fiddled with a panakes flower petal, the smooth texture rubbing between my thumbs. I stared into her brown-gold flecked eyes, those beautiful eyes boring into mine. And before I could stop myself I said.
"I'll tell you who I like." My eyes went wide with realisation and so did hers. We kinda stared each other down before she said quietly, like almost scared.
"How do I know you won't lie?"
I gently took her wrist in my hand and brushed my hand on her arm.
"I would never lie to you Foster."
Her heart seemed to stop for a second but she recomposed herself and I gently released her wrist. She brushed her hair behind her ears and tugged at an eyelash.
