My sister, Evelyn picked me up from the elementary school and helped me get the obvious parts of my vampire costume off. My parents don't really like Halloween that much. It seems like everything I am is what my parents don't like.
It's not like I'm rebellious or anything. I just have interesting interests. And I'm not "mentally okay" according to my parents. It took a while to figure out what they meant, but I finally asked my sister, and she told me that I was mentally fine to the family's knowledge, and that I was just autistic. Ever since I got those results, my parents have been distant, and started treating me like a mouse that snuck into the kitchen. I only really had my sister, and now, Kevin.
"You seem cheerful" she said. "Didja talk to him~?" she teased. I knew she was talking about Kevin.
"I did, actually!" I happily said. "He's really nice, and he agreed to be my friend!"
Evelyn smiles warmly. "I'm glad you talked to him. Seriously, you're hardcore pining."
I stare at her. "I am not!" I exclaim.
"Whatever you say, little bro." She said as she ruffled my hair. "Let's get some dinner and head home before mom and dad get suspicious."
I giggled a bit. "Alright, Ev. Can we listen to music on our way to where we're eating?"
She smiled. "Lady Gaga or MCR?" It took me a moment to choose. "MCR" I answered.
"Three Cheers or The Black Parade?" She then asked.
"Three Cheers"
We then make our way to McDonald's. I get some chicken nuggets, fries, and a sprite.
At some point, I start dreading seemingly everything, but nothing at the same time.
I look at my sister, singing along to Thanks For The Venom and quietly ask, "Why am I never going to live up to mom and dad's expectations? Nothing about me is what they want."
Evelyn turns down the song and softly asks, "What do you mean?"
I sigh. "Well, I enjoy crime and alternative rock, I'm a horror fanatic, I'm autistic, I'm gay, in love with a guy, and I really don't want a 'job' working with the church, and I don't want to be a doctor or a lawyer. I'm not what they want."
Evelyn looks at me with a pained expression. "Streb...you shouldn't push yourself to be what they want you to be. Like whatever you like, love who you love, and pursue what you want to pursue. Don't let them live through you vicariously." I softly smile.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." I say as we pull into the driveway.
"So you're in love~?" Evelyn asks teasingly.
I stare intensely. "Shut up, Ev."
