"Kids, we're home!" Mom exclaimed as she came through the door. She and Dad had couple's costumes on again this year. Frenchie and Doodie from Grease. They forced me and Jack to watch that when we were younger. We definitely shouldn't have seen that at such a young age.
"Hey mom!" I greeted her. "How was the party?"
Dad chimed in, "It was alright. As per usual, most of my friends were at home."
Mom scoffed and changed the subject. "How was the carnival?"
I was excited to tell them everything. "Remember that kid, Streber I brought up a couple days ago?"
Mom smiled. "Yeah, of course."
"Well, let's just say I finally have a friend." I say, possibly slightly too enthusiastically. I haven't really had friends for a while. But I was confident that this friendship would last.
"That's great, dear!" Mom says as she puts down her purse. "I'm glad you made a friend. You haven't really had any since...you know.."
Since I came out. A bunch of people around this part of town are really conservative and didn't want their kids to be around me. I had heard a rumor that Streber was gay. He might be in the same boat. Who knows?
"Heh, yeah.." I muttered. "He's really nice."
"What kinds of things does he like?" Dad asks.
"Well, he likes reading, drawing, horror, and vampires." I gathered this information from when I saw him in the hallways between classes. "He's just really kind. He seems to enjoy, or at least is good at watching children, he's the most harmless person I'd ever met. He likes to just do his own thing. Oh, and he likes Sprite." That was probably a jumbled up mess, but it was all I really knew about him.
Mom warmly smiled. "He seems like a lovely fellow. It would be great to meet him at some point!"
"Haha, yeah.." I replied. I desperately hoped that Streber was free sometime soon so I can prove to my mom that he's real. I've made up friends before, and I could tell she was suspicious about this one.
"I have some biology homework, so I should probably get to that." I muttered
