Chapter 74: Streber

"Streber!" Kevin carefully hugged me. "You're awake!"
"Yeah...how long was I out..?" I asked weakly.
"A little less than two months..." There was a huge smile on his face, and tears streaming down. "I thought I lost you, Streb..."
Kevin looked like he hadn't slept in days.
I smiled at him lovingly. I attempted to sit up and wrap my arms around him, but I noticed that one of my arms was missing. "Huh?" I said in disbelief.
Kevin looked at me sadly. "Yeah...the doctors couldn't recover your arm..."
I sighed. "Well...at least I can be a really convincing zombie next year!" I said, attempting to be optimistic.
Kevin giggled a bit. "I'm just..so glad you're alive..." he smiled softly. "I don't know what I'd do without you..."
I held his hand even tighter. "I love you, Kev..."
"I love you too, Streber..." he carefully hugged me again, planting a kiss on my forehead.
"How's Radford's sister doing?" I asked. Kevin told me that she was diagnosed with stage two cancer, like Robert was a few years back.
"She's doing a lot better..." Kevin was staring at me in adoration. "She's expected to make a full recovery..."
A nurse walked in to check on me. "Oh, you're awake." She said.

Eventually, we had to run a few more tests. If I was lucky, I'd be discharged by Christmas, they told me.
Kevin had to leave for these tests, however. All it was was a couple injections, seeing if I could walk, simple stuff like that.
I was told that I was good to go, and set to be discharged tomorrow afternoon.
I was given some restrictions, however. I can't lift heavy objects(not that I would with one hand), I can't drive, I can't engage in an intense physical activity(I nearly shouted "That's what she said", but I figured it wouldn't be the most appropriate timing), and I could take a few weeks off of work and college.
I was just relieved to be alive.
