The night was chaotic. It didn't even take 5 seconds for Skid to run off with his best friend, Pump.
"Skid, where are you going!?" I yelled in his direction.
"It is the spooky month!" Skid responded.
That sure helped.
I ran after the two, but they continued running at the speed of light, doing anything they could to relate to Halloween other than parties or trick or treating.
Eventually, I chased them back home, and by that time, Lila was back home, decorating for Christmas.
"Oh, hey guys!" Lila smiled at us. "I was wondering where you'd gone!"
"Y-yeah..." I said, out of breath.
Lila walked over to me and handed me $20.
"Oh, you don't have to!" I softly smiled.
"You want me to take it back?"
"Oh, no, I need this."
I hated being in this position. Now I felt rude. But I did need it. I had begun saving up money for a home or for college once I graduated high school.
Probably just a home. My parents might expect me to continue running the Candy Club because my brother is going to be a police officer, and my dad won't be working for much longer.
So it'll be my job.
It didn't really bother me. I enjoyed being at the Candy Club. I used to always go there with my dad while he was working. It was like a second home. I felt safe there.
And plus, I never really cared what I wanted to do with my life. No matter how important that was.
"Thanks, Lila." I smiled at her.
"No, thank you, Kevin!" She happily thanked me.

I opened the door to my house, half expecting mom to forget I had written to her yesterday, and freak out asking me where I'd been.
But when I walked in, I saw Jack in the kitchen, smiling.
"Hey, little bro!" He happily greeted.
"Hey, Jack. You're in a good mood."
Jack smiled even more. "I just had the best day of my life!"
Good for him. I just had one of the worst.
"Really? What happened?" I asked, sort of pretending to be interested.
"Well, I finally had the strength to end things with Emily, and I finally earned my police badge!"
He graduated high school when he was 20. His birthday was really late in the year, and he was held back when he was in 5th grade due to ability and behavior.
Since he was 21 now, he could attend the police academy, and apparently he earned his badge.
"That's amazing, Jack! I'm proud of you!"
I was still wiped out from the night before, and still on the verge of tears worrying about Streber, but I was happy that Jack at least got his happily ever after.
