It's a few hours later and Meredith had finished with all the exams and tests.

Meredith was now sleeping in her hospital room. Derek stood outside of Meredith's room and watched her sleep.

"Did you know she has a kid? I wonder what her kid will think when she sees her mother like this," one of the other doctor said.

"Yeah, I have to go tell her," he said.

"wait really? you know her kid?" he asked.

"yes, make sure nothing happens to her," he nodded before he walked away and took the elevator up to the floor with the daycare.

when reached the fifth floor he opened the door to the daycare and searched around the room with his eyes for a small girl that looked like Meredith.

He found Aurora at a table with small Legos building a house. he walked over to where she was standing a bent down to her level.

"Aurora, is it?" he asked while smiling up at her. Aurora so much as glanced at him before going back to build his house.

"Aurora, I'm Dr. Derek Shepherd. I'm a friend of your mothers and there's something I have to tell you," he said softly.

"Mommy says not to talk to strangers," she says.

"I know I may be a stranger to you but I'm not a stranger to your mother,"

"Mommy says that's what strangers say when they want to take you so you can never see Mommy ever again," she says.

"Honey, that's not what I want. I wanted to tell you..." he began but he also realized there were other children who were paying attention to what he was saying.

"Why don't we talk alone for a bit, over there where no one can hear us. you can take that with you if you'd like," I say.

"but I'm not leaving with you," she says.

"that's fine, we just need to talk," He agreed.

he took her to the other side of the room so he could talk to her alone.

"Aurora, there was an accident with your mother. there was a patient and he was a very sick patient who did something without realizing what he was doing. Your mother was hurt, badly, and she's in a hospital right now. she has a few broken bones and she can't talk right now and she can't go home for a bit so she won't be taking you home," he said softly.

Aurora was quiet for bit. "but then who is going to take me home?" she asked with tears in her eyes.

"I don't know, they might have to call your father-"

"No! I can't go with Daddy! he's just going to take me back to the bad place with the bad men! I can't go with Daddy!" she said.

"Okay, Okay, Okay, they won't call your father. but you have to go home with someone. does your mom have a friend that can take you home?" he asked.

"I have an Auntie Addie that could maybe take me," she said quietly.

"Okay, we'll see if we can find her number. do you know where she works?" he asked.

"Yes, she works here too, she's a doctor. at work her name is Dr. Montgomery," she said.

"Dr. Addison Montgomery is your aunt?" he asked a bit surprised. Dr. Montgomery didn't seem like the child type enough to have be around a child enough to have a child call her 'Auntie Addie' he had never heard anyone call her that.

"Yes, she's my mommy's best friend," she nods.

"Okay, We'll see if we can find her. would you like to go see your mother first?" he asked and she nodded.

"Okay, come with me," he nodded and stood back up, his knees hurting a bit. he hadn't bent down like that in years.

"But I'm just going to see my mommy, don't tell my mommy I came with a stranger," she said as she stopped in her place.

"Okay. but you know I'm not technically a stranger, I live next door from you," he said taking her hand and continued walking out of the daycare.

"Is mommy really hurt?" she asked as they continued to walk to the elevator.

"Yes, she won't be able to hear you when you talk to her so you'll have to write it down on a notebook and just be careful when you want to hug her, Okay?" he said as they stepped on the elevator and pressed the 5 button.

"Why?" she asked.

"you'll see," he said and waited to hit the first floor.
