Awestruck is what I'm feeling right now. Did I really just hear those words correctly. Did Robyn just say she loved me. I never thought I would ever hear those words again.
"Robyn I don't want this to sound harsh but what do you mean you love me?" I asked cautiously as I removed myself from her embrace.
"I mean exactly what I just said Sean. I love you, and I have the entire time even before the apocalypse. I just never had the courage to try and piece everything back together. It maybe took along time but finally realising that I might have never gotten the chance to say what I wanted to say to you ever again snapped me into the reality that I do in fact love you more than ever." A slow smile started on her face.
My stomach, a feeling I haven't felt in over 17 years, was racing with butterflies. I have loved this girl since forever and now I get the chance to make amends for the stupid mistakes I made back when I was 18.
"I never thought I would ever hear you say those words to me ever again either." I told Robyn. "I love you too and I never ever stopped. So let's make this reunion whole shall we? Let's go find our son."
And with that our mission began. Our group had to be out there alive. Andy being here was proof that they made it out. I turned towards Andy and pulled him into a brotherly hug. "Thank you for not giving up on me brother and also thank you for bringing her back to me. Let's get you back to where you belong. Back with your family."
2 Months Later........
Time had passed by so quickly that winter was here. Our 3 person group was barely surviving. Food was scarce and finding any suitable shelter was getting harder and harder. We trudged around the little village we had come across looking for any sort of supplies we could find. I could see my brother and my girl stood empty handed at the rendezvous point we set. They didn't have any luck either. We had started to journey back towards Blackburn as we figured that this is where our group would head to find each other again. As I got to the rendezvous I asked Andy, "How far out are we from Blackburn now bro?"
"Around 2 maybe 3 days out." He replied with a slightly concerned voice. "We also only have enough supplies to last us a day if we are lucky. We need to find stuff fast otherwise we aren't going to survive out here Sean."
No. That was not going to happen. Not on my watch. We haven't come this far to die right before the finish line. We will find something somewhere I just know it. That's when it hit me. The camp in Darwen. That is one place people may not have searched because it fell so early on in the apocalypse. We was only a days walk away from there. Suddenly my confidence and my hope had started to come back to me.
"That log cabin up on the hill, that's where we make camp for tonight."
We rushed into the cabin clearing out any walkers we came across. This would be perfect to get some rest. Only one way in or out through the door as the windows were already boarded up. Andy had collected some firewood and we got a fire going. We rolled out our sleeping bags and sat by the fire to keep warm. I pulled Robyn in closer to me as we sat so she could rest her head on my chest.
"I have a plan to get us the supplies we need." I stated calmly. They both looked at me with looks of confusion. I continued, "Tomorrow we set course for Darwen as it's only a days walk from here. Once there we will head to the camp that was set up there at the beginning of all of this. It fell pretty quick and was overrun by too many walkers for anyone to attempt to get in. I figure with the way this winter has been the walkers would have thinned out and we could sneak right in there. Think about would could still be sitting at that camp. Food, water and maybe even a radio so we can try to reach out for the others. So let's get some rest as we have a big day ahead of us."
And with that I laid down on my sleeping back with Robyn laid cuddled up right next to me. I passionately kissed her on the lips and told her in a gentle voice, " I love you so much baby."
Her angelic voice replied, " I love you so much too babe." And with that we all drifted off into our slumber.
