Falling for a mistake | Jeverus

Part 3

James walks out of the office and slams his car door shut.

" He said it's fine."

James hits his steering wheel a few times with his palm and again, that feeling of wanting to scream.

" It's fine? It's fine?! Your husband is out with your bestfriend and it's fine?!" He yells to no one and leans back into his chair.

He's more pissed than Severus is. And it's not a good thing.

He doesn't want a relationship with Regulus, he doesn't even like him. He's always been Sirius' little brother, the image will never get out of his head.

He was curious and bored, he wanted to see how Severus would react. Maybe if it was a close friend he would care.

But no. It's always the same.

" Did you have fun?"

" Who was it this time?"

" I'm okay, you know. I can handle it."

Why does he take it? Why doesn't he walk away from him, why wont he care?

James liked the idea of an open marriage at first. He had needs Severus wasn't willing to give and it was a stress relief of sorts.

But just like everything else in life James got bored of it quickly. 6 months of hooking up with strangers and friends resulted in nothing.

" Do you have time tomorrow?" Severus asks over the phone and James checks his calendar.

" Um i have a date."

" With who?"

James hesitates and adverts his eyes as if Severus was right in front of him.

" Regulus."

" oh."

Oh. That was a reaction wasn't it?

" Then nevermind."

" I can cancel."

" No i don't want to get in the way. How was you day?"

" Tiring." James leans back into the sofa.

He was home before Severus, like always. He won't be back until 11 tonight.

" Maybe the date will be good for you. Take your mind off things."

" I hope so."

" I'll be home late tonight. A little past midnight."

" Why?" James straightens and leans forward.

" My colleagues want to have a drink with me."

" Oh? Special occasion?"

There was silence, then a sigh.

" Nothing in particular."

" Oh. Then okay, have fun tonight."

" I'll try. See you later darling."

" Goodbye love." James smiles and the phone hangs up.

James loved Severus' voice. The pet names too, it was all so domestic to him it was perfect. The marriage he wanted, the routine of it all.

He didn't like how far apart they always were but it was okay, James would learn to live with it.

His phone buzzes in his hand again and he looks down.
