Nightmare sat up against the headrest, groaning. He felt warm and icky, and his tendrils were acting strange. This was the first time in, what, four hundred years? He suddenly bent forward, covering his mouth with his hand. In a weak attempt to dull the unusual feeling, Nightmare covered his stomach with his arms. It didn't have much effect, though, because of the broad, deep blanket covering his waist and below.
There was a gentle knock on the door. "Love?"
"Come in." Nightmare smiled as his husband walked into the room.
Closing the door behind him, Cross sat at the end of Nightmare's bed with a tray in his lap. "Eat up." He put the tray on his lap.
"Thank you, darling."
"Anytime." Cross stayed as Nightmare ate his breakfast. He ate the warm pancakes happily, temporarily forgetting his previous nausea. He sat up again when he was finished. Cross chuckled, reaching over and wiping away a few crumbs on Nightmare's cheek. Nightmare leaned into his touch. "And your medicine." Cross took his hand back and tapped the small container on the tray.
"Fine." Nightmare took the pill container and shook one out onto his hand. He picked up the unfinished glass of water with a tendril. Cross held the bottom of the glass just in case. "It's alright, love." Nightmare chuckled, but regretted it when he coughed repeatedly.
"Night?" Cross cupped his face worriedly.
"I'm fine." Nightmare put his hand over his and leaned in.
"Good." Cross smiled and let go, much to Nightmare's disappointment. He swallowed the pill. "You should sleep now." He took the tray.
"Alright." Nightmare leaned forward, his eyes going half-iddled. Cross covered his mouth with his hand. "Wha- hey!" He huffed.
"You can't kiss me."
"Why not?"
"Because I'll get sick and the others can't take care of either of us."
"Fine." Nightmare huffed again.
"I love you, though."
"I might love you after I get a kiss."
"Get better first, so sleep." Nightmare grumbled in response.
