Nightmare hid his worried expression and his pain. Right now is the last time he should be feeling weak. Not when his small bundle of bones was inside the castle he was in front of.
An ambush. That's what happened to them. His brother had sent his finest soldiers to kill them. After all of Nightmare's soldiers abandoned him because of Dream's kingdom growing stronger, the castle was left defenceless. Nightmare felt idiotic for not noticing the soldiers approaching, but he was spending that time with his little one and dear husband, so he regret nothing.
Horror and Dust were already held to the ground. So now, only Nightmare and Cross remained. They both knew it was pointless. With Horror and Dust down, two against an entire army was impossible. Nightmare panicked as a guard dressed in blue rushed past him into the castle. A tendril wrapped around their neck and threw them against a metal pole at the entrance.
"Commander!" One of the soldiers cried. All the others caught on and all eyes were on Nightmare.
...
Nightmare struggled and squirmed, turning his wrists to get the cuffs off him. How dare these mortals think they could- a whimpering voice cut off his inner monologue. Cross was on one knee, barely supporting himself up. Every part of his white bone was covered with blood, cuts and cracks. Nightmare hated seeing his husband like this- despised it!
Nightmare nearly yelled as a soldier kicked his Cross back down, using their heel to grind his head onto the ground. "Stop." A calm voice commanded. The soldier looked over and fell to his knees in a bow. Dream got off his horse. "Stand up, and give him medical attention. We need him alive."
"Yes, my king." The soldier helped Cross up, who, with horror, Nightmare realized was limp.
Dream sighed. "Hello, brother."
"F**k off, you sh!tty b@stard."
"I'm only here to discuss some issues. Shall we go inside?"
"Not like I have a f**king choice." Nightmare glared.
Dream sighed and took the cuffs to pull Nightmare inside. He went over to the couch, despite Nightmare's scared expression. "Well, I thought that we could-" He went silent at the sight of a small sleeping skeleton. Dream continued the silence before clearing his throat. "This one's yours, correct?" He whispered.
Nightmare suddenly seemed vulnerable. "You can do whatever the f**k you want to me," he whispered. "But don't you think about laying a hand on my son."
"I won't harm your child." Dream glanced at the little one again. "He's also Cross'?"
"Yes."
Dream sighed, thinking. "The child will be raised in my castle. You and Cross will be sent to the dungeon for life. Because I could never imagine how thinking about losing a child would feel, I'll let you know about his state, but he can't visit." He sighed again. "I'm sorry, I can't control what my soldiers will do if they know about your child." He had an idea and left the castle temporarily.
When he came back, the commander was beside him. "What do you need of me, my king?" He asked.
"Swap, I need you to stay here until everyone else has left to take the child to my castle in secrecy."
"Th-the- a child?"
Dream explained to him. "My brother's child. He is to be raised in the castle while the other four are to be jailed."
"Yes, my king."
...
Nightmare sighed in relief as Cross entered their shared cell. He helped his husband sit down on the small bed. "Wha-what about Incubux?" Cross asked shakily.
