Chapter 5

Venus

I couldn't speak to Lavinia after what happened because the king made sure she and Diana were safe by locking them in their rooms for the rest of the day. So me, not knowing what to do I went to my assigned room and laid there thinking about my mother and brothers. Were they alright? Is Atticus over working them?

The next morning I woke up before dawn and probably before anyone else, I put the clothes they've given me and went to that pool were I bathed yesterday. I splashed my face with water and pushed my hair out of my face.

"Good, you're awake" a voice said behind me, I looked at the blonde with a smile. Marissa handed me a dry cloth and I thanked her.

"I am on my way to wake the queen, I'm assuming you're going there as well?" She smiled, I gently patted the soft fabric on my face drying the water. She was watching my every move, how my hands moved and where the towel landed until I was done.

"I am" I said with a head nod, she finally averted her eyes and lead the way. She was a tanned women with blonde wavey hair, her eyes were the color of an emerald which I found very pretty, I've never seen someone with a pretty eye color, oh wait nevermind, The queen...

Marissa knocked a couple of times then pushed the door open, and I followed after her into the room. Marissa stopped for a moment and turned to look at me with wide eyes she put her hands on my vest and tried to push me out of the room.

"Turn around" she whispered quickly, I gave her a confused looked about to ask her why would she kick me out of the room when I just got inside.

"Marissa is that you" a feminine voice said making me look up, the queen walked out of a room only wearing her underclothes. A simple white robe that barely reached mid thighs. Her long red hair was gently laying on one side of her shoulders and I can see her collarbones. She truly looked so magnificently attractive and I was drooling over her.

"Venus!" Marissa whispered yelled making me look down at her, she looked so terrified and nervous like she's made a horrible mistake. Oh that's why she wanted me to turn around...

"Sorry" I replied and was quickly pushed out of the room without being able to take a second look at the queen. The door was shut so roughly making me roll my eyes, I leaned against the wall with my arms crossed waiting for them to get ready.

After the first hour or so I assumed, it just felt so long, my head started to hurt and I was getting bored, I sat down on the ground and put my head on my knees. I was starting to get sleepy, and at some point I gave up on trying to stay awake.

"Venus?" Someone called but I didn't pay them any attention, I felt them kick my leg hard making me jump up to my feet in no time. When I saw Marissa glaring at me I was about to cuss her and her mother and her family for waking me up but I quickly shut my mouth at the sight of Lavinia.

"You have drool on your face" Marissa said with a smirk, I quickly put my hand to wipe it out but there was nothing on my face.

"Very funny" I replied making her smile, I looked back at Lavinia who was looking at our interaction with a smile. I can't get the image of her soft red hair or her long legs that were so inviting to look at out of my head.

I should stop staring now and for the rest of my life because I'm embarrassing myself, she's married for god's sake, to the emperor. I'll never have a chance, not that I was thinking about having a ch- I need to stop this madness.

"Your majesty" I bowed my head slightly and averted my eyes from her, the queen nodded without saying anything to me and walked away.

"Great first day at work" Marissa said rolling her eyes and followed after her mistress, I sighed doing the same. I walked next to Marissa but behind the queen, when we reached the main room and I had a sniff of a very delicious scent my stomach rumbled loudly making me feel the most embarrassed I've ever been in my life. I quickly apologized avoiding to look at the two women.

"It's my fault, I've forgotten that you haven't eaten since you got here." Lavinia said without looking at me, she sat down on the chair and started eating so elegantly and I honestly didn't know what I wanted to look at more, her or the delicious looking food.

"Sit" she said without looking at anyone, I looked around and surprisingly Marissa wasn't even here anymore. I didn't realize that she left already, when I didn't move Lavinia pulled the chair backwards asking me to sit once again.

"Sit before I change my mind"

I hesitantly sat down next to her, she pushed the golden palate and cup filled with wine in front of me. There was a piece of bread that she already took a bite of, dried fruit and cheese.

"What? You want me to feed you as well?" She said with an attitude, I cleared my throat embarrassed that I've been staring at the plate for a while. It's just...my mother used to skip meal time so me and my brothers could eat more and I was just thinking if she was eating in this moment or not.

I picked up the piece of bread and took a bite followed with a sip of wine. I just ate in silence while the queen sat there doing nothing, when I was done a maid came to take the empty plates. I stood up bowing to the queen.

"Thank you...for the meal, your majesty" I said still not looking at her,

"You're welcome, you need to keep in shape if you wanna protect my daughter" was her reply, she stood up to leave and I followed after her in silence.

We reached a back garden and she pointed to the green field, I tilted my head at her not knowing what I'm supposed to do.

"Mother!" The annoying voice of her child made me smile, but not a real one and she saw that. I looked at the 10 year old in front of me, she had a wooden sword in her hand and she pointed it at me.

"Well hello there" she said with a smug look, I nodded without giving her a reply.

"Ready to get stabbed?" she asked pushing the tip of the fake sword on my stomach, I rolled my eyes and slapped it away.

"I wish" I mumbled already so done with this and made my way to the the garden, I bent down to grab a wooden sword as well and the asshole fuckin hit me on my head making a bonk sound.

"Really?" I turned to glare at her while holding the back of my head, she just smirked and got ready with her sword out. I took a deep breath swinging the wooden object in my hand, I'm gonna enjoy kicking her very much.
