Chapter 21

Venus

The guards made sure I hit everything on my way to the colosseum, I was dragged from the castle until I reached my designed cell. My shackled wrists and ankles were sore from the heavy metal but I wasn't in the mood to be a smartass because all I was thinking about was if Lavinia was okay alone with that man.

I didn't even pay attention to the other men here, I was looking down at my feet deep in my thoughts. I sat in my corner with my head down, one because I was tired and I didn't sleep in a while, and two I'm really not in the mood to start a conversation with anybody.

"Psst"

I ignored it.

"Psst! Hey, new girl" I heard someone call for me but I didn't lift my head up, I just wanted to rest for a moment. My body was aching from the beating I just got and my head was very heavy.

Just when I thought the person gave up something hit my shoulder, a pebble maybe? I looked at it for a second before looking at the person who threw it at me. My eyes squinted trying to remember where I saw him before.

"It's Aio, remember? From the market?" The handsome boy said with a wide smile, ah yes the pretty boy from the market. Why was he here? Did he not get sold?

"I thought I'd never see a familiar face again" he laughed from the other cell, he leaned against the wall and look at the small window that barely lets any light in.

"You met me for a brief moment" I replied making him chuckle, the tan boy looked much buffer than before and his arms were all scarred and bruised which meant he was here for a while now.

"Why are you here?" He asked curiously, I sighed and looked down at my hands once again not feeling like talking anymore.

"You're different than last time I saw you. Something must've happened to you" he said again making me sigh annoyed, why won't he just close his mouth for a moment so I can rest my eyes.

"Don't tell me you fell in love with your owner?!" He suddenly gasped,

"Now why would I do that?" I replied,

"You're dressed better, you look more healthy. I'm saying you got caught fuckin someone you're not supposed to" he said with a proud smirk like he just figured out the secret of the world, I rolled my eyes at him and smiled thinking about Lavinia.

"Oh you fuckin did!" He laughed loudly making one of the guards hit the cell bars hard as a warning, Aio rolled his eyes and folded his arms in front of him.

"I did not fuck her, Aio" I wish.

"Do you love her?" His question hit a spot, and I wasn't ready to answer it just yet. Do I love Lavinia? I don't know? Would I kill for her? Of course, Would I die for her? Without a second thought.

"Explain to me what happens here" I completely changed the subject and he understood that I wasn't ready to talk.

"This is entertainment for the Romans, once in a week two gladiators fight each other to death until there's only one winner left..." He started, to death?

"They tell you, if you're last to survive you become a free man but those are all lies. We fight for their entertainment, we die for their pleasure. But hey at least we are well fed" he tried to make the mood better but it was too late.

I'm not afraid to die, I'm not afraid to be beaten, what scares me the most is what will happen to Lavinia after I'm gone. What will happen to my brothers after I'm dead?

"And you came just in time because tomorrow is fight day, so good luck with that" He gave me a thumbs up,  then a question popped in my head.

"Does that mean I have to fight you?" I asked curiously, he shrugged his shoulders.

"Not necessarily, we could team up for now. Until the last fight" he smiled and I nodded, should I trust a stranger?

"How can I trust you? How would I know you won't kill me?" I asked him again,

"I am a man of my word, I will help you and you'll help me until the last fight. I have my reasons to trust you and I assume you have yours" he pushed his arm through the bars and I stood and walked to him, I gave him my hand to shake and he nodded with a smile. For some reason I had a feeling I could trust him.

"Why are you here Aio?"

"I didn't want to have sex with the fat fucker who bought me, and he thought I was too pretty to die." I sat down on the ground because we don't have beds.

"I also slept with his son, I think that's one of the reasons I'm still alive" he said casually, and here I thought he wasn't sold at all. We just engaged in random conversations which was helpful a bit, that's until I noticed a man from the other cell looking at me with a smirk on his dirty face.

"You're a woman, stuck with us. We should have fun with you first before you die" one of them said licking his lips, I sighed and just laid back down on the floor.

"I don't think it's a good idea to let them speak to you like that Venus, you're showing them that you're weak" Aio whispered but I ignored him, I closed my eyes and tried to get some rest. Unfortunately my alone time was quickly gone when  I heard the old cell door open and footsteps walking towards me.

I was pulled harshly by my leg by the guy from earlier, I kicked my leg trying to free it from his grasp but he didn't let go so I kicked him in the stomach with my other leg. He fell back on his back and I stood up making my way to him.

"Just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I'm an object that every sick bastard of you could fuck!" I sat on him to keep him down and started punching his face hard, I couldn't count how many it took until he was out but I didn't stop. I didn't know if it was anger from what he said early or an old anger that I've been building up for a while.

"Venus, that's enough! He's out!" I heard Aio say but I didn't care I kept going using both fists  until I was roughly pulled away from the unconscious man, the two guards in front of me glared at me and one of them pulled out his whip while the other dragged the guy out of my cell.

"This will teach you a lesson" he said hitting me with the whip a few times, but I managed to cover my face so the hits were either on my leg or arm. I sat there with my body hurting thinking how I'm gonna fight tomorrow.

"Wasted all that energy for nothing" a female voice said, she was dressed like Aio in a full leather armor.

"And you are?" I asked breathless, she had a wooden bowl in one hand while the other had a cloth that she brought inside the cell with her.

"She, is my life savour." Aio butted in, the woman crouched in front of me and dipped the clean cloth in water. She grabbed my arm and started cleaning the new wounds that I got from the whip, she put her hand inside the pouch she had attached to her belt and took out some green plants then smudged them on my wounds. Then did the same to my leg.

"This will make you feel better, you'll be good to fight tomorrow" she said wrapping a long cloth around my arm and leg that were hurt along with my bloody knuckles. I gave Aio a confused look then looked back at the woman.

"Rhea works here, she takes care of the wounded gladiators. So they can fight again, because the people want a good fight and not something mediocre" Aio explained then rolled his eyes, I nodded and looked at Rhea, I mumbled a thank you and she just smiled then got up to leave.

Tomorrow is gonna be so much fun...
