Chapter 17

Venus

I was laying in my new room feeling very uneasy, I didn't know what's wrong or what's happening but something didn't feel right. I had to go see my brothers to check on them, and see how the plan was going.

My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door do I got up and went to see who it was. When I opened the door I looked to the right and to the the left but I didn't see anyone. I felt something hit my in the shin making me wince in pain.

"I'm not that short" the kid said sounding upset, I laughed and looked down at Diana who had her arms crossed with a bored look.

"How can I help you?" I asked leaning on the doorframe and crossed my arms in front of me, she sighed and looked down at her feet.

"Well, I just...wanted to say..goodnight" she whispered sounding unsure, I don't think that's the reason she's here. Maybe she's paranoid or anxious, because Lavinia didn't explain what was going on.

"Goodnight then" I took a step back so I can walk in my room but she followed after me, I gave her a confused look and she just stood there with a worried look.

"You can sleep on my bed tonight" I sighed and I saw her eyes widen for a moment in disbelief but her worry soon turned to relief, I went to the chair that was across from the bed and sat there. I watched as the kid climbed on the bed and covered herself with the blanket.

I know she's probably scared she just doesn't wanna show it, but I don't blame her, her father hates her and could possibly hurt her. She cant trust her guards and her mother has been abused.

"Where's your family Venus?" I heard Diana ask, I looked up at her and she was sitting on the bed with a curious look.

"They work in a farm, I have two brother and my mother Flora. Such a sweet woman, you'd love her" I said with a small smile, Diana was waiting for me to continue curiously and I chuckled at how cute she looked.

"My oldest brother Felix, he's tall and strong with dark brown hair, he was always over protective of us, he'd take us swimming and teach us how to hunt and fight." She was starting to get sleepy so I continued,

"While my second brother Magnus, tall as well but he has very light brown hair, just like yours, he's the trickster, always pulling pranks on everyone while I got blamed for everything..." I chuckled softly at the memories,

"Then there's my mother, Flora. She means the world to me, she was always protecting me and making sure I was well fed, she made sure I never got in trouble even if I was the one who started it...She used to call me her wonder child because somehow I was always able to smile even in the darkest moments" I looked at the kid and she was resting back with her eyes closed, I stood up and went to her tucking her in and covering her from the cold.

Since I was already dressed in my armor I decided to go see my brothers, I grabbed my cloak and left the room. I made sure to hide the plank when I crossed because Marissa won't be there to throw it to me when I come back.

When I reached the farm I noticed that the house door was broken down and a body was laying on the front steps. My eyes widened as I ran towards it, my mother usually stays there with the other kitchen maids and I was scared that she might've gotten hurt. I could hear my heartbeats in my ears and my heavy breathing as I made my way inside.

I looked around at the bodies laying on the ground, royal soldiers? I flipped one on his back and his throat was sliced open, I went further in the house and I recognized Atticus' fat body, his chest had a huge stab wound. I checked everyone, they were all dead, him, his wife and his daughter and all the royal soldiers. But my question is, where is my mother?
