We carry on walking until we see another scroll on a tree
"You're up, Jug" Betty says taking the scroll to read "The Battle of Kings. Only one shall lead
the kingdom of Eldervair" Betty puts down the scroll and we arrive into a clearing where Chic is shirtless holding an axe. He begins to swing for Jug and a fight breaks out. Chic starts strangling Jughead and that's when Betty gets involved
"Jug!" she shouts running towards them and hitting chic over the head with a wooden branch. I feel hands on my arm, when I look it's Veronica
"Guys!" I shout holding her up, Archie takes her from me able to hold her up better
"It's It's Penelope's poison. We gotta keep moving. Come on" Jug takes Bettys hand while Archie helps V, I really hope we finish it his before the poison takes full effect.
"Wait, I still don't get it. Chic had red hair because Penelope is pretending that he's Jason Blossom?"
"Can we explore the craziness that is Oedipus Riverdale after we get the antidote? and out of these damn woods"
"Your going to be ok V" I smile at her
"Maybe figuring out how all this is connected is exactly what we should be doing. Hal, Penelope, Chic. They created this unholy trinity with direct links to everything bad that has happened in the last three years. It's like Jason Blossom's death began the Black Hood which began the Gargoyle King"
"But the Gargoyle King existed before Jason was killed" Veronica reminds us all
"Well, then it's a case of the serpent eating its own tail. It's a vicious cycle of never-ending madness that turns back on itself, over and over again, until someone breaks the chain"
"Us?" I ask Jug who shrugs.
"Looks like it's my turn"
"Hey, I love you" Jug tells Betty before she does her task, of course she says she loves him back and they share a kiss. She walks over to a table with candles on and a box. That's when I see her pull out a gun and her dad appears
"You know how this has to end" he says taking off his mask "You have to kill me, Betty. That's your heart. That's your truth. You can't deny your destiny" Hal pulls out a gun of his own and points it at her
"Don't make me do this, please"
"Either kill me and get the antidote, or I will kill you and your friends. You have until the count of three. Either shoot me or I'll shoot you"
"How could someone's own dad do this?" I ask no one in particular
"One, two..." my ears starts ringing from the sound of Bettys gun going off. I watch as Hale groans falling to his knees
"I will never be like you, Dad"
"Enough! good god, Hal. You can't be trusted to do anything. You were a terrible serial killer then,
and you still are today. Unless" Penelope picks up Hal's gun then shoots him in the head. Betty screams and I turn away but the image of watching as Hal being shot is now imbedded in my brain. Archie pulls me close to him as I cry into his chest feeling scared about what Penelope is going to do. Jug and V rush forward to hold Betty. I look up and notice the antidote and pull away from Archie and grab hold of it
"And what do you think you're doing?" Penelope asks
"Claiming our prize" I tell her
"We won didn't we?" Jug shouts We survived the night. We proved we're better than this town"
"That may or may not be true" the Gargoyles start to move forward towards us "kill them. Kill them all!" Penelope shouts. Archie grabs my hand and we all start running away as the sun comes up.
As we're running I trip making Archie stop
"Go!" I shout
"Not leaving you here" he helps me up just as I see two cars suddenly pull up
"Take cover!" I see Cheryl stand up and pull her bow and arrows out
"Rory!" I see Sweet Pea running towards me. He picks me up bridle style and runs behind one of the cars, placing me down
"What the hell happened?" he asks running his thumb over my split lip
"Had to do the dance and gauntlet"
"Bastards. You ok though?"
"Yeah think so. Oh Veronica Betty drink" I hand over the antidote to Veronica who quickly drinks then so does Betty
"Poisons charge!" Cheryl yells then looks at us "all clear" I get up and limp over to her
"Cheryl, Toni, thank you"
"Your my bestie" she shrugs
"Why aren't you at the Farm? where's my mom?" Betty asks walking over
"She sprung me from that Jonestown-like nightmare and told me to find you all. Edgar was planning to ascend tonight"
"My God. We have to save her"
"Fangs" Pea says wide eyed
"Get in" Cheryl tells us and we all climb into the truck.
Arriving at the Farm we run through the hallway and finally get to the door where they are meant to all ascend. Opening the door is Kevin crying in a ball. There's white clothes and shoes all around him
"Kev?" I ask waking, or limping forward
"They left me. I wanted to go but they said that someone had to stay behind to explain what happened"
"What did happen?" Archie asks
"The worthy ascended, of course"
"Who did? where's my mom? and Polly?"
"Gone. Everyone is. And we'll never see them again" Toni places her hand in mine and I give it a squeeze
"No. I will not except that. They will return. They will. All of them"
