Chapter 28
"What?" Dakota screeched over the phone after I relayed to him what I had seen after school.
"It was all bloody and... Urgh. It was terrible." I stuttered, not wanting to be reminded of Adam's injury.
When there was silence on the other end of the line, I asked "What's wrong with Adam, Dakota? 'Cos I really want to help him here."
Dakota sighed. "Adam has some... Anger issues."
"Since young?"
"Anna, you see... Adam comes from a horribly broken family. He doesn't have anyone to relate to. Only me. Which kinda sucks, because I can't do anything either."
"But what is he angry about? What has irritated him to the extent of hurting himself?"
"I'm not sure. I'll find out soon though. Anyway," he paused, trying to change the subject. "Make sure you get up early tomorrow."
"What? Why?" I was confused.
"I have an activity lined up. Oh, and make sure to also dress comfortable, no high heels or flats. Sneakers or sports shoes are preferable."
"Would you like to tell me what will we be doing?"
"Aw Anna, if I tell you now, it'll ruin the surprise."
Curiosity was killing me. "Tell me!"
"Nope. Goodnight and see you tomorrow," he said. I could almost imagine him smiling.
"Wait -"
The phone clicked, signaling that Dakota had ended the call. Did he just hang up on me?
I made a mental note to reprimand him the next day for hanging up a call on me.
I slid under my duvet, my body seeking the cool sensation of the silk sheets. I closed my eyes and slipped into the world of dreams.

Click. Click.
I peeked open one eye and snapped it shut almost immediately. The light from the sun was so blinding that my eye hurt. I turned my head to the other side of the bed to avoid the nuisance commonly known as 'blinding sunlight'.
Click. Click. Click.
What was making that noise? I opened both my eyes, trying to figure out the weird noise. My eyelids drooped and eventually, I was back to snooze mode.
Click click click.
This time, the sounds were increased in speed. Irritated, I shot out of bed. I was disorientated for a while, and I gripped on the sides of my side table to stable myself. Pain shot through my head as a result of my fast movement in getting out of bed.
I sat back down, both annoyed and suffering.
Click!
This sound was the loudest. That's it, I thought. I located the sound, which was coming from the window. I shielded my eyes from the light.
It must be one of those birds, pecking in my windowsill. I studied the window for a while longer and then I saw it.
A small object hit the glass on my window, causing the 'click' that I had hated so much. Lesser than a second later, the next one came, followed by another one.
I got up from my bed and tilted my head to the side, trying to ease the piercing pain. I stood at my window, which was right beside a large oak tree. I glanced down and realized that I wasn't really surprised about who it was.
