Chapter 32
I stood in front of Amber's dressing mirror and stared into it. I marveled at the girl who was staring back at me.
The pretty girl had soft and gentle auburn brown curls, which framed her round face. Her bangs were plaited into a subtle twist and hidden among the luscious curls. The rest of her hair cascaded down her back like a never-ending waterfall. Her chubby cheeks were now coated with a layer of makeup, complete with a blush as red as a pink rose. Her eyes were outlined with dark eyeliner, which not only made her eyes stood out, but also gave her an elegant look. Her lips were coated with a shiny red, that resembled silk. Her eyebrows were drawn to perfection - dark brown and expertly shaped.
Her midnight blue dress hugged her round hourglass figure, and ended in a slight flair at the top of her knees. Her dress complemented her body, making her look less over-sized.
I still couldn't believe that she was me.
I guess Amber really did a perfect job of dolling me up. I have entrusted my plain looks to her earlier, and she had spent the next hour doing my makeup.
Amber was standing in front of another mirror and adjusting her own yellow dress. She slipped on two bracelets and an angelic necklace.
"How do I look, Anna?"
I shrugged. "Not as good as I do."
"Hey! I did your makeup for you. The least you could do is be nice," she muttered.
I gave her a small smirk. "Okay, okay. You look perfect. If you fuss any further, it won't look perfect anymore."
"True."
She stepped into her heels while I buckled on my pumps. I had no confidence in wearing stilettos. I couldn't even bring myself to think of the consequences.
"I'm counting on you to do my prom makeup, Amber. It's coming soon." I joked.
"I'll charge you for that when the time comes."
I scowled and made it to the bottom of the stairs to the door. Suddenly, my mom rushed out from nowhere and produced a camera. Flashing lights were all I see - was probably an understatement.
"Anna! You look beautiful. You should dress up more often!" Mom gushed.
"No thanks." I replied nonchalantly and made it out of the door. Mom gave me a knowing look. I nodded discreetly, afraid that Amber would suspect of the deal I made with mom.
I was supposed to get Amber home by midnight, and Dakota was to ferry us home. The time when the party would start is at 8, which only gives Amber 4 hours to party. And 4 hours for me to waste.
Dakota's car pulled up in front of my house. He was wearing a crispy black tuxedo, and his hair was sleeked backwards. I shook my head and laughed.
"Hey handsome," I teased.
He raised his eyebrows and checked me out. My face burned and I wonder if it showed on my face despite the makeup.
"Hey gorgeous."
He leaned down and tried to kiss me. I took a step backwards. "I have lipstick."
Actually, I was conscious of Amber, who was looking at us lazily.
"Let's get into the car," I muttered to her.
Dakota put the car into drive wordlessly, and within seconds, we were racing down the streets.
"Alright, Amber. I'm gonna give you your safety briefing, as requested by mom," I started as I turned to face her.
Amber groaned and rolled her eyes. "Now you sound just like mom!"
