Chapter 13
I woke up to find fifteen unread text messages. I grumbled and opened them. What the hell does Elle want? The only person who ever texts me is her.
However, they were not from Elle. 1 was from Adam while 14 were from Dakota.
I decided to open Adam's text first. I took a deep breath and opened it.
Hey Anna. Sorry about last night. I had totally forgotten about our dinner date. I'll make it up to you.
I read and reread his message over a thousand times. I was having mixed emotions. Curiosity was the biggest emotion.
How? I texted back.
I opened my other texts from Dakota.
The first one read: Hey beautiful.
Followed by: I miss you.
And: Are you awake, Sleeping Beauty?
I couldn't help but laugh at his cheesy texts. All the other texts were equally cheesy or cheesier.
I'm awake now, thanks to you. I didn't know you were so cheesy, player. I punched in and tapped 'Send'.
I threw my phone across the bed and snuggled under my duvet, willing myself into sleep.
My phone vibrated again. My eyes flew open and I rushed to see who the text was from. I secretly hoped that it was Dakota.
And it was. I read it and smiled at his humor.
Aww, that hurt.
I did not bother to reply. Instead, I hopped out of bed to get dressed.
I skipped to the kitchen to see that mom had prepared cereal for breakfast. I quickly lapped up the blueberry cereal and licked my lips. Delicious.
Mom and dad had gone to work, Amber had a sleepover last night at one of her buddy's house. I grabbed a banana off the counter and went back upstairs to get changed.
I had swim team practice in school on a Saturday. I mean, how horrid is that? I sighed.

"Summers! Five more laps, pronto!" Coach's voice boomed into the loudspeaker.
I finished first and she asked me to do another five laps? I groaned and back stroked for five more laps. I returned to my team, who was huddled around Coach.
"Girls, competition is next Wednesday! If these are your performance results, you can forget about joining the team for the next competition. Is that understood?" She barked.
"Yes, ma'am." We echoed.
"Good. Take five and get ready for timed trials."
We scuttled off to the bleachers to get a sip of water. I glanced over to the boys' pool. They were still swimming laps. I spotted Dakota's red cap bobbing on the surface of the water, as he swam. He reached the side of the pool first and spewed water out of his mouth, his fist pumping the air.
"Jerk." I muttered to myself. Dakota's eyes scanned around the swimming hall, searching. His eyes landed on me, and he flashed an award-winning smile. I stifled a laughter and just waved back.
"Summers! Into the water, NOW!" Coach yelled in my direction. I had been too preoccupied with watching Dakota that I had not realized that break was over. The whole swim team laughed at me, Naya being the loudest.
