They were working a local case, had been for the last three days and they were all running haggard. There wasn't enough sleep, or food or time, the victims of a sadist turning up every other day. That's why the tension between all of them were running high, she knew that. But it didn't matter because she knew that Aaron wouldn't do what he did to anyone but her, only felt that he could because they were married. And she was seething.

She had the unsub, caught him unexpectedly as she was searching through the latest victim's house, Morgan in the house next door, interviewing the neighbors. And then there he suddenly was, and she took off without a second thought. She could hear Morgan behind her, could hear Aaron's voice through the earpiece to stop, to wait for them. She hadn't listened, but she caught a murderer and that was good enough for her.

But it wasn't good enough for him, the second they were back at the station he had told her to go home, that she was done for the day.

"What did you just say to me?" Her tone is detached, an iciness to it that makes Derek's eyebrows shoot up and causes JJ to leave through the door that she had just walked through.

Emily can feel the anger inside of her, taking root and growing as she stares at her boss, not her husband, from across the table. He was watching her with the same angered expression, his jaw twitching as he dismisses her. They always differentiated work and home, they had to if they wanted to last, but right now the lines were getting blurred.

"I told you to wait for backup and you took off anyways. You ignored a direct order. So I'm telling you, get your stuff. Go home." It's curt and final and she catches Spencer's fearful eyes as the younger man looks between them.

"Hotch..." Derek tries but he doesn't listen.

"Now, agent."

She leaves with a huff, cheeks flushed from anger, body shaking with adrenaline. She couldn't remember the last time she was this upset with him.

Aaron walks through the door and is met by nothing but silence and darkness. Jack was sleeping at Jessica's; he hadn't heard from Emily since she had left a couple of hours earlier and he knew that she was still angry. He knew that he had overreacted, but the way she reacted to him had forced his hand, she had disobeyed his order and talked back to him. It couldn't be like that when they worked together. He made his way up the stairs, saw a soft light in their bedroom and breathed a sigh of relief that she was still awake.

"Honey?" He asked softly as he walked into the room but he didn't get a response. He could hear her in the bathroom, the sound of water running and then being turned off as she rinsed the sink from toothpaste.

She walked out of the bathroom and didn't give him a second glance, headed straight for their closet to grab her pajamas instead.

"Emily come on." He sighed at being ignored, quickly walking behind her to stand in their walk in. "You can not be serious right now. You're not still mad?"

"It's all good Hotch." She muttered as she pulled out one of his old shirts.

That did something to him. He wasn't Hotch in their home, he was Aaron and she knew that. It was a difference that was important to them, especially to him and hearing her call him Hotch took him back.

"Em," He started and tried to stroke her shoulder but she flinched away from his touch "talk to me."

"Nothing to talk about. I'm fine, it's fine." She pushed past him and went back into the bathroom.
