Emily held Tara's hand while she drove them home after enjoying a much-needed night out together. Home was a reoccurring theme in their relationship ever since they first started dating three years before. The long and short of it was, they were each other's sense of home and they really had been since the day Emily returned to the BAU. Now, she was driving them back to the physical home they shared together, which sometimes still felt surreal.

"You're quiet," Tara said. She had been staring at Emily for five minutes without Emily even noticing, not that Tara was complaining about the view. Emily's strong features framed by her grey hair, now that she stopped dying it, always looked so beautiful from her profile view, Tara could genuinely stare at Emily for hours if given the chance.

"Sorry," Emily muttered. She pulled Tara's hand to her lips to press a kiss against it. "I guess my mind was somewhere else."

"Well, what are you thinking about? It always helps you work things out when we talk about it," Tara reminded her girlfriend.

"Honestly, I'm not even sure. I think I was just sort of daydreaming...," she glanced at the clock on the dashboard, "well, night dreaming," Emily corrected with a chuckle at her own joke.

"That's usually just called dreaming," Tara corrected.

"Yes, I suppose you're right," Emily smiled across to Tara. "As always."

"Don't you forget it," Tara replied.

She continued watching Emily as they settled back into comfortable silence. Tara often wondered what she had done in life to ever have deserved the life she and Emily shared. Three years felt like the blink of an eye in the scheme of things, because Tara knew she wanted to spend the rest of her days with Emily by her side.

While Emily hadn't ever been married, Tara had been, so she knew how hard serious, long-term relationships could be but the thing was, being with Emily had never felt hard. Tara was young when she married Daryl and supporting him through his addiction had pushed her to her limit, until they both knew they couldn't keep going in the same damaging cycle. Then when she met Doug, she fell in love all over again and even said yes when he asked her to marry him, but that relationship fell apart as well. Tara had just joined the BAU when they broke up and while it was obviously heartbreaking to watch another partner walk out of her life, she had poured herself into her new role as a profiler and convinced herself she was done with love.

Five months later, Emily Prentiss changed everything for her. From the moment they met, Tara knew Emily was someone special and after only a couple months of long-distance communication when Emily returned to London, Tara had fallen in love yet again. Here they were, a few years later, seemingly falling more in love with each other every day. With their career, the years were not easy, they had witnessed so much death and devastation since they began dating, but with every obstacle they had overcome, their relationship only grown stronger.

"You're staring at me," Emily said, glancing out of the corner of her eye. "What's on your mind, love?"

"Oh, I guess I was just night dreaming too," Tara repeated.

"That's just called dreaming, I know so because my very intelligent forensic psychologist girlfriend told me as much," Emily jested.

"Ha ha ha," Tara replied wryly. "I guess I was just thinking about how much I love you and how each day, it still sort of catches me by surprise that I get to wake up every morning with you and go to bed with you each night."
