Jennifer Jareau has been affected by pretty women for as long as she can remember.

As a child she would get butterflies in her stomach when her girl friends would want to hold her hand so they didn't get separated in between classes. In her teenage years, her face and neck would flush pink when her teammate braided her hair before soccer games. At college she would feel her heart beat faster when her girlfriend pulled her into a bathroom to kiss her at parties.

But Jennifer had never actually felt her heart stop because of a pretty woman. But that was before she met Emily Prentiss.

She remembers the first time she saw her in Hotch's office so vividly in her mind. She hadn't been expecting someone else to be in there but when she saw the gorgeous, dark haired woman she felt her heart abruptly come to a stop. This was by far the most beautiful woman she had ever seen. An actual goddess stood before her, and for a moment JJ wondered if she had died and gone to heaven. When the still nameless woman focused her eyes on JJ, her heart seemed to restart itself and it started hammering rapidly in her chest and threatened to leave her body along with any thoughts that JJ's mind previously held. JJ got lost in the dark pools of the woman's eyes and she had to desperately scramble upwards to avoid drowning. JJ still has no idea why she went into Hotch's office in the first place but her brain must have gone to autopilot and allowed her to do what she went there for.

The second time Emily caused Jennifer's heart to stop was the first time she heard the older woman say her name. JJ hadn't seen Emily at all throughout her first case, but by the time her second case rolled around, Emily had been on the team for about a week and the two women had not worked together directly yet. That didn't mean that JJ had not spent several occasions watching the woman and admiring her beauty from across the bull pen when she knew that Emily couldn't see her. The two women were in the round table room along with Derek and Spencer reviewing case files of the case they had just got. The others were reviewing victimology whilst JJ was trying to find any relatives of the most recent victim. JJ was going over how she was going to tell the woman's brother that his sister was dead, however her train of thought was lost when she heard Emily's voice.

"Hey JJ does victim number 4 have any family?"
JJ's heart stuttered and for a moment it definitely stopped beating completely. Emily had said her name and she wanted her to say it again and again. Her voice was so smooth and captivating that JJ felt she could listen to it for days and never get bored. She only realized that she had been asked a question when three pairs of eyes were trained directly on her and were awaiting her answer.
She looked up at Emily and when she met the woman's eyes she became very aware that her heart had started again and she began to worry that everyone else in the room could hear it as she uttered her answer to the other woman.
"Yes, she has an older brother that I was just about to call to come in."
JJ felt her heart returning to an almost normal rhythm after she had stopped speaking and continued to hold eye contact with Emily.
"Okay thank you," was the response that she got from Emily.
It was such a simple interaction, but JJ replayed the way that the woman's voice had sounded when she said JJ's name as she was trying to fall asleep later that night.

The third time Emily Prentiss caused Jennifer's heart to stop was a much more monumental moment in JJ's mind and it took a significantly longer amount of time for her heart to start working again.
The team were on a case in a small town and the tiny motel meant that the team had to double up. Being the only two women in the team meant that Emily and JJ were automatically roomed together, and when they got in the elevator up to their room they could still hear Derek and Spencer bickering over having to share a room.
Emily had been on the team for about two months and so far they had managed to avoid this situation. On the short elevator ride JJ began to feel anxiety pooling in her stomach about having to share a room with Emily. Jennifer had found herself developing a very intense crush on her new teammate. She felt like she could take her eyes off of the absolute goddess that was Emily Prentiss whenever she was in a room with her. The older woman was the most beautiful woman Jennifer had ever laid eyes on and she didn't want to miss a single moment of the woman's existence. But the idea of trying to share a room with the woman and keep her crush hidden seemed to be something that made JJ's heart drop to the bottom of her stomach and worry began forming at the idea that her attraction would be discovered.
