He didn't tell Nikki yet, but Mick managed to find a cheap 2-bedroom apartment. The realtor was willing to work with Mick and get him and Nikki moved in as soon as possible, which he was extremely thankful for. He shacked away all the money Nikki has made from 'work'.

So their few more months without a home, was more like just a few more weeks.

It was a humble apartment. Three bedrooms, two of which being barely big enough for a bed and dresser. Not that they owned a dresser anyways. Mick had a small storage unit with his belongings from when he first moved out and from ex-girlfriends place, including a couple thin mattresses, old living room furniture, and a few kitchen appliances and utensils.

He wasn't too sure how Nikki would even react to having a home. He might've lived in a house when he was younger, but it was never a home for him. It didn't take long to realize how skittish Nikki could be, he didn't like change or new things. It took Mick forever to even persuade Nikki to wear a new pair of shoes he bought him, even though Nikki's shoes were too small, and had holes in the bottom.

Nikki sighed heavily as he sat up from Mick's lap.

"Morning kid..." Mick flexed his back a bit, sore from sleeping up right.

"Morning... did you sleep okay?" Nikki asked, mid yawn.

"No, but, did you?"

"No... I'm cold..." Nikki said, leaving on Mick's shoulder and pulling it over them both.

"I know... me too" Mick sighed. He rested his head on top of Nikki's. "Hey, so... I think we're gonna have a place. Soon"

"Oh... where are you going?" Nikki asked, worriedly.

"Us, Nikki. You and me, man" Mick took Nikki's hand and squeezed it.

"You want me to come with you?"

"Yeah Nik, cmon man, I can't leave you out here" Mick whispered.

"We're gonna have a home?"

"Yeah, Nikki. We are" Mick said quietly.

"Are we still junkies?"

"Well... not homeless junkies" Mick chuckled. "Just regular ones" he ruffled Nikki's hair. "Wanna go see where it is?" He asked.

"Sure..." Nikki said, sitting up.

"Are you okay with this? Having an apartment?" Mick asked.

"I am... it's just different, y'know?" He said quietly. "Is it safe?" He asked.

"Yeah Nikki, it is" Mick said gently, he started up his car and drove out of the parking lot.

"Is she... are they gonna find us?" Nikki asked.

Mick shot his head over at Nikki, who was damn near sweating bullets and completely panicked. He pulled into a nearby park and parked in an empty area.

"Hey, hey, look at me" Mick snapped his fingers in Nikki's face. "Fuck..."

Mick reached around the backseat and pulled a bag out. He pulled out a spoon, a plastic bag, and a syringe. He took the lighter from the cup holder. He wrapped a shoe string around Nikki's arm and started to cook up Nikki's fix.

He filled the syringe of the dark thick liquid and quickly injected it into Nikki's veins.

"There... you good?" Mick asked, pulling the string of Nikki's arm.

"Fuck... that was a good one too" Nikki lolled his head back. "M sorry..."

"Hey, I've got ya" Mick said. "Anyways, you good? You ready?"

"Yeah, let's go" Nikki took a deep breath and shook himself out.

Mick smiled to himself and drove back out of the park. He kept his eye on Nikki as he drove, taking note of his dilated pupils and his calmed down state.

He pulled into the parking lot of some apartment buildings.

"That one, right on the end" Mick lazily pointed.

"Looks nice..." Nikki said, looking out the window. "That one?" Nikki pointed.

"Yeah, the one on the right of that blonde guy... or girl"

"I like it, looks like a good area" Nikki said as he looked around.

"Good... I'm glad you like it" Mick said, lighting a couple cigarettes. "We can go to the storage unit later and see what we've got, what we still need"

"Do you... do you think I can get better?" Nikki asked, blowing cigarette smoke out the window.

"I think you can. Do you think you can?"

"I... I dunno, I want to, but..."

"If you want to, you can" Mick said confidently. "Cmon, let's go out for breakfast"

A few weeks later, they got the keys to their apartment on the top floor. Nikki offered to drive back and forth between the storage unit and load Mick's car to save Mick's back.

He had an absolute hell of a time trying to figure out how to load a loveseat into Mick's car. He wasn't even sure how Mick got it into the unit to begin with. He got part of Mick's car packed with some boxes and other things.

He sat there and stared at it for a while. He snapped his head when he heard a sudden voice.

"Hey man, need some help?" A blonde guy, who looked about Nikki's age.

"Uhm..." Nikki started to say. Unsure on how to react to the blonde's kindness.

"Look, we've got a van that'll fit the couch and chair. Are you movin in someplace?" Blondie asked.

"Yeah... my friend and I just got an apartment... Uh, yeah, I guess you can help" Nikki said.

"Hell yeah, want help loading your car?" Blondie asked.

"Uhm, yes please, then we can get the sofa" Nikki said. "I'm Nikki"

"Vince"
