Mick kept his promise and called Vince as soon as they were settled in. They were in the same outskirts motel, laying on a single bed. The cashier was happy to see them again. She still wouldn't accept payment from the two of them. She was worried though, they didn't look too hot. They've been at the motel four days, and Mick could tell Nikki was starting to mellow back out. It would take a couple days, but he's getting there.

Mick picked up his phone and hesitated for a moment. He listed to the shower, he figured Nikki would be in there a long while. He dialed Vince's number.

"Hey sugar"

"Hey... just callin, are you and Tommy doing okay?" Mick asked.

"Uhm... more or less I guess, Tommy's okay"

"What's wrong?" Mick asked, Vince's voice got slightly higher, sounding upset.

"A lot... Sharise called-" Vince voice broke and he let out a cry. "My baby only has a few days left!" He sobbed into the phone. "Mick I don't know what to do!"

"Fuck... hey, is Tommy around?" Mick asked, chewing on his nails.

"Yeah? What for?"

"Because I think I need to come home" Mick said.

"Really? You're coming home?" Vince asked, crying.

"The moment Tommy can get over here, the moment I can come home" Mick said in a hushed voice.

Vince handed the phone off to Tommy. Mick gave him the address to the motel they were at, and Tommy dashed out the door quicker than Mick would've thought. He figured it would take Tommy an hour to get there, and Mick and hour to get home.

"H-how far away is the motel?" Vince asked, sniffling.

"An hour, I suppose Tommy will be here quicker than that though" Mick said.

"Yeah, he probably will" Vince let out a wet chuckle. He sniffled.

"Hey, why don't you take a bath or shower? Have a bit of a breather and kill some time?" Mick suggested.

"Yeah... yeah that's a good idea" Vince coughed.

"I'll be there soon, okay?" Mick said.

"Okay... I miss you, a lot"

"I miss you too Vin, I love you" Mick whispered. "I'll be there soon"

"I-I love you too, I'm gonna go take a shower"

"Okay... I'll be home in about an hour" Mick said.

They said their 'I love you's' and hung up. By then, Nikki walked out of the bathroom.

"Hey... Vince isn't doing so good, so Tommy's on his way to be here with you"

"Oh... he is?" Nikki blushed. "I wish he didn't have to see me like this..."

"Hey, you're looking better than you were" Mick assured. "You feelin better?"

"A bit, is Vince sick?" Nikki asked, sitting next to Mick.

"No... uhm... his daughter is, it's not really my place to say this, but... she's got cancer, and, she's only got a couple days left" Mick said, looking down and away.

"Shit... God... I don't even..." Nikki looked down too.

"Yeah... neither do I..." Mick said. "Are you cool with Tommy coming?"

"Yeah, it's cool. Uhm... maybe Tommy and I can stay a few extra days, so you and Vince can have some alone time though this" Nikki said.

"You'd do that?" Mick looked up at him.

"Course man, Vince needs you" Nikki said, a shy smile on his face. "When will Tommy get here?"

"20 minutes maybe, depending on how much of a maniac he is" Mick chuckled. "I can give you guys some money, if you want to go to lunch."

"Nah, I got it. Apparently I grabbed all the money I had when I ran out..." Nikki shrugged, shame lacing his voice.

He rested his head on Mick's shoulder. He was about to close his eyes when a motorcycle pulled up outside their window.

"Must be him... I'll go meet him" Mick said.

"Do you want me to pack your clothes?" Nikki said.

"Nah, you'll need em if you're gonna be here a few extra days" Mick said. "I'll be right back"

Mick left the room and went down the hall to the lobby. He saw Tommy at the reception desk and waved at him.

Tommy smiled and walked over to him. He dug around in his pocket to pull out his keys. "Want to take my bike? Its got gas" he asked. "You can drive quicker"

"Are you alright with that?" Mick asked.

"Course!" Tommy smiled.

"Okay, thank you, Tommy." Mick said. "Cmon, I'll walk you too the room"

Tommy followed Mick closely. Mick knocked on the door before going in. Tommy smiled warmly at Nikki, earning a shy smile back.

"I'll check in with you later" Mick said to Nikki. He ruffled Nikki's hair. "Thank you again, Tommy" he rubbed Tommy's shoulder.

"Not a problem, tell Vinny we love him... I never got to meet his little girl, but, she was a beautiful girl, small, just like him, she does not deserve this" Tommy said sadly.

"I will, thank you Tommy" Mick smiled softly before sipping out of the room, making sure to leave his car keys behind.

He waved to the receptionist as he left, offering each other kind smiles.

It was a quick drive back to the house. He nearly cut his time in half by taking backroads. He pulled up to the apartment complex and parked next to Tommy's van. He trotted up the stairs and slipped inside the apartment. He looked around before calling for Vince.

"Vin?" He called out.

He knocked on Vince's door, then Tommy's. He wandered over to his room and quietly opened the door.

Vince was curled up in his bed, clutching a stuffed rabbit and one of Mick's sweaters. Mick slowly and steadily slid under the blankets. He stroked Vince's hair gently, urging him to wake up a little, but not too much. He noticed the wet tears on Vince's face. Mick carefully wrapped his arms around Vince and pulled him up on his chest, letting Vince's head fall into his neck.

"M sorry... I just wanted to be in here..." Vince's video u r was almost raw.

"Shh... s'okay... it's okay" Mick whispered. He ran his hand over Vince's hair.

"I just want my baby... Sharise never let me see her like I wanted to..." Vince cried.

Mick knew what that was like. He had two kids. He didn't have a choice but to be an absent father. He rubbed Vince's shoulders lovingly.

"I've always wanted a baby girl... and now she's getting taken away from me"

Vince sobbed heavily into Mick's neck. And all Mick could do was hold him, give him kisses, and be the rock he needs. There was no use in saying 'it's going to be alright', because it's not. Vince might not be okay for the longest time. And Mick was okay with that. He wanted to be able to support Vince through everything.
