Chapter 10

I laid Zero onto the mattress on the floor in my room. She rolled over before she started coughing. The coughing grew more violent. I rushed over to her rolling her over back onto her back. I lifted her chin. She started gasping for air. "Shit shit shit." I mumbled before picking her back up and rushing to Brian and Tim's cabin. I placed her onto their couch before rushing to the backroom. I knocked twice and didn't get and answer so I opened the door.

I walked in to see my best friend naked. I quickly covered my eyes. "Help.... Zero..... Not breathing..."I said out of breath. Brian quickly pulled on a pair of pants. "I just saw your penis.I placed her on your couch."Brian rushed to his living room. The girl was gasping for air. Brian sat her up and hit her mid back with a fist. She spit up a clump of blood. "She's infected isn't she?" Brian nodded at my questions.

"She has a cough like Tim does. Tim get a glass of water for her." Tim walked over with a glass of water. Brian took it and gave it to Zero. She drank it quickly. "Better?" Zero nodded at Brian. I  sat at her side and she looked at me.

"You know Brian I am a little jealous. I wont say of what because she's here but I'm sure you know." I complemented. "Tim I hope you are the top. That has to hurt otherwise."

"Very funny Jeff."Tim said chuckling. "We're gonna head out to do our jobs. Just don't sit on my porch for hours." Tim said as him and Brian went to their room once again.

"Are you okay Zero?" I ask her softly.

"Yeah I think so. What does he mean I'm infected?" She looked at me concerned.

"The slender sickness is effecting you now. Badly. At this point you could end up like Tim and Brian. They cough up a lot of fucking blood sometimes."

       "How does it affect you? I never see you coughing or seizing."

        "My head gets all fuzzy and dark. My vision gets blurry and my balance sucks ass." I chuckle softly. "The goal is to make us safer for him to be around. Brian and I are some of the deadliest people around here. We can kill hundreds quickly and efficiently. He's killed so many goddamn people I don't think I'll ever catch up."

         "I've never seen him kill anyone. I've seen you do it. And I've seen most people here kill or disfigure people."

          "Brian is discrete about his kills. We used to call him the poisonous shadow. You would be dead before you would hear him rack a round. He taught me everything I know." I looked at before standing. "He has more important things to do here. He is the guardian of the forest."

"Jeff can you carry me?" She looks up at me. I can't say no to those eyes. I pick her up gently. She laid her head on my shoulder as I carried her to my cabin. I laid her on my bed. She quickly feel asleep. I looked back at her before going to my porch. I sat on the chair I had next to my door and looked out on the compound.

A few hours pasted as I sat on my porch. I saw Brian emerge from his cabin and start his walk to the training field. A few moments later his squad followed in his footsteps. I got up from my porch and looked inside the window to see Zero in the kitchen at the counter. The sky was grey I hate when it rains, the whole compound becomes a muddy slippery mess and I wear a white jacket. Do you see my issue with the rain? Tim left about an hour after Brian, he walked over to my porch.

"Hey Jeff." His voice was kinda quite. I looked at him with a glare before sitting back in my chair. "How's Zero? She make it through the night?"

"Now what kind of fucking question is that? Of course she's fine." I say with a smart tone. He can ask such stupid questions all the damn time.

"Did you see Brian go to the training field this morning?" I nod at his question. "He seems off today just be alert."

"Noted now get to work. I'm the only guardian with the day off. Brian won't like your slackness." I say with venom as I stand back up from my chair. 

       "Jeff! Tim!" Kate called to us as she ran from inside the woods. "Brian is about to kill some one." She said as she grabbed my hand and started to slightly pull me in the direction of the woods. Tim and I followed her closely as the ran through the woods. 

      "Brian put the girl down!" Tim said as him and I approached the group.

"No I wont. She deserves what is about to happen. Stay back boys." Brian said as he put his finger on the trigger. "Alright class a lesson on dealing with those who are unworthy. Kill the traitors." Before Brian could pull the trigger Tim snatched the gun from his hand. A round as fired into the air. The woman dropped, She took the knife from Brian's hip and stabbed his leg. "Fuck!Bitch stabbed me. Toby take her down. Kill her that's an order." Brian said as he grabbed his shin to apply pressure. Toby nodded and began to chase the woman that was now running.

"What the hell happened? I've never seen you lose your cool like that." I said as Tim put the smaller male on the ground. Tim ripped Brian's pants at the shin to see the wound.

"She questioned my position." Brian said. He winched in pain as Tim tied cloth around the stab wound. "Ill be okay Tim."

"What did she say?" Tim said. X Virus walked over the the group.

"Sir if I may? I believe my story would be less bias." The teen said. Tim nodded at the boy. "We were on our second lap. Nina stopped and attempted to stab my squad leader. We apprehended her and took her weapon. Brian pinned her to a tree, with the gun saftey on. A scare tactic most likely. She questioned his ability to lead, she said and I quote, "I see grown men letting a dick sucker make their decisions." X said . Toby returned with girl alive.

"Take her to camp Toby. Lock her in with the nude woman." I said to Toby. He nodded and walked off. "All of you go back to camp, we'll take care of this." The twelve proxies returned to their cabins.
