Chapter 12

A few days later I went out to patrol the main compound area. I saw blood splattered on the cage and the naked girl was gone. I followed the blood trail to the dog's pin. I saw what looked like Nina laying there dead. I sighed and walked to Brian's cabin. I sat down on the railing. Tim opened the door with a cigarette in his mouth.

   "You're always right there." Tim said looking at me.

  "Nina is dead." I said looking at Tim. "Gunshot wound to the head. She was being eaten by the dogs this morning." I looked at Tim sternly. "How was your trip?"

  "Well he's dead and Brian seems to be himself, I don't know if the mark retuned, I was asleep when he came in the house and he's always gone before I wake up." Tim said to me.

  "Tim we need to see if he has the mark." The woman walked out of their cabin and I had a stunned look. "Why is cage girl in your house?" I asked pointing at the girl.

   "Brian believes its time for her to beginning our way of life. Her lodging is only temporary." Tim said looking at me. "Is Brian already on the field?" I nodded.

   "They left about three hours ago.They woke Zero up." I said as I hopped off the railing.

   "Kate go join Brian on the field."The girl ran outside the compound. "So you and Zero, are you dating or fucking?" Tim asked. I looked at him.

   "I want to date her, but I have this habit of killing those that are close to me. So we are currently just fucking." I said. "How'd you ask Brian out?"

   "Well it was a Tuesday night and we were on a walk , we'd been fucking for a while before then mind you. And I looked at him and just asked him. Our relationship has always been very honest. It was the same process when I asked him out after we broke up." Tim said looking at me. "Man look if she's serious she'll say yes."

   "You're right." I said looking at Tim. Finally he was right about something.

   "Hey look man remember we don't need no kids in the compound. It's bad enough we have thirty seven teenagers in this compound." Tim said looking at me.

I nodded and left his porch and walked to my squad who had just arrived in the training field. I was nervous, my palms were clammy. My heart was racing. "Zero a moment." I pulled her aside from her squad mates.

"Yes Jeff?" She asked me. I led her far enough from the group so that they couldn't see or hear us. I gently grabbed her hand. I pulled her into a soft kiss. When I pulled away from her she looked shocked. "Jeff what if Brian saw that? You know this is supposed to be secret."

"Zero don't worry. I'll handle him if he says anything about it." I chuckled softly. "As you know you're done with basic training and that was the agreement. So now I ask you will you be my girlfriend?" I asked and she smiled brightly. She nodded at me and kissed me once again. When she nodded it was like a weight off my shoulders. I smiled softly. "Now get back to work." I chuckled as she kissed me one last time before rejoining her group.

Later in the evening after my squad was done training I rushed over to Brian's cabin. I walked in to their cabin. "Tim it worked!" I exclaimed. Brian looked at me confused.

   "What worked?" Brian asked looking at me. I sat down next to Tim.

   "I asked Tim for relationship advice, and it worked. Zero said yes." I said looking at Tim.

   "I'm glad it worked."Tim said. Tim's radio began to buzz. He picked it from the stand next to the couch. Me and Brian looked at the handheld.Brian walked into the bedroom and got his own.

   "Hello is anyone there?" A male voice asked. Brian looked confused.

  "How did he gain access to this channel?" I asked, as Brian grabbed a computer from their room. He linked it to the cameras around the forest. They saw a man in a black and white scarf and a black trench coat. "It can't be." I said shocked. "I think that's my brother."

    "Stranger things have happened."Brian said. I rushed out of the cabin and Tim and Brian followed with their masks adorned. I ran through the forest until he saw the man. It was Liu.

     "You two stay back only engage when needed." I said to the two men behind me. "Liu is that you?" I said as I walked into the clearing as Liu watched me carefully. "Liu I thought you were dead."

  "Jeff you tried to kill me!" Liu screamed at the man as I approached him. Liu pulled a knife from his coat.

   "Liu I was not in control. I was a puppet for the Slender man. I regret that night." I said holding my hand in Liu's direction. "Liu come with me." I said. Liu sprang at me at knife. Brian shot Liu in the knee causing him to fall. "Goddamn it I told you to fucking wait!" I said. Brian and Tim emerged from the forest.

   "He was going to kill you. Jeff he does not forgive you. Kill him and go home If you cant I will." Brian said harshly. "We must protect our own. At the moment he is our enemy." Brian looked at the man bleeding on the ground.

   "Brian that is my brother!" I argued. I pointed his knife at Brian. "I will kill you before I kill him!"

   "Jeff ,Tim and I took you in. We nursed you back to health. We gave you a home. Hell we raised you into an adult. Is this how you repay us?" Brian asked. "Jeff we have been your family for eight god damn years!"

   "Brian my life was perfect before Slender man got involved! I had my family. I was happy before he infested my mind. I wont let him take my brother from me again!" I screamed at Brian. I  moved closer to Brian, knife in hand. "I wont let you take him either."
