~Jeff's POV~
Once I arrived back at my cabin I walked through my empty house to my room. It was a good sized room with only a mattress, a dresser and one stand. The walls were covered in blood and paint was smeared. One wall had an array of knives stabbed into it. Brian always called my taste in decor strange, but it's my house. When I entered my room I pulled off my blood stained hoodie and threw it onto the floor.I plopped down onto the mattress on the floor when I heard a knock on my door. I sighed heavily as I pulled myself back up.

Lumbering down the hall till I got to the door. The knocks hit once again while I was grabbing the handle. When I swung the door open I saw the young woman from early standing on my porch. "It's late." I commented with a dark and brooding voice.

"I came to see you." She said softly. "You look like me."

"I didn't stitch up my cuts on my mouth like you did. The only thing we have in common are the bleached complexions." I looked around behind the girl to see if she was followed. "Come in." I stepped back and
she slipped past me. I shut and locked the door. "Why have you really come?"

"My squad mates told me too." She confessed with her head down.

"There's nothing to steal I here. If you wanted to steal you should have gone to the other elite's cabin." I walked from the girl into my kitchen. "Why did they send you here?"

"When I returned to my cabin they started asking questions about the boy you carried from the woods. They wondered why he walked out soon after me in fear. So they all dared me to come ask you." My ears perked up at her comment. I rushed over to her and grabbed her face. Shock covered her face.

"Are you a spy?" I questioned her. She shook her head quickly, so I released her. "It's confidential information. His name is Toby though, but no one is allowed to have contact except the elites."

"What did he do?" She asked cautiously.

"A lot of things. We have simple laws here. Obey, respect, and earn your keep. You all obey us and we all obey the master. Only Brian has contact with the master directly." I hissed. "Do you want a drink?"

"Are you gonna drug me?" Fear filled her voice.

"Why would I drug a bottle I am going to drink from. I would not waste liquor like that." I said before walking to the kitchen. I walked to a cabinet and pulled out a dark unlabeled bottle. "You don't have to take a drink. I know y'all don't get this opportunity often." I reached for two glasses, placing them on to the counter.

"I was told it was against the rules to drink." She muttered.

"For people training yes. Now I can't get blackout drunk in case of an emergency." I confessed as I poured two glasses. She walked over to me. I handed her the glass. "I won't tell. Brian is not here so you have nothing to worry about."

"Which one is Brian?" She asked as she took a small sip.

"The shorter one who was teaching you. He is the head of this whole operation. Nothing happens here without him knowing. Watch yourself around him, he is cruel and can be unforgiving." I shuttered. "But he can be a good guy if he focused less on work. He used to be much nicer, but something is bothering him."

"How long have you been here?" I was shocked that she asked a questioned about me. She wanted to know something about me? Why would someone want to know about me?

"Eight years ago I was in your shoes. Brian taught me everything I know. He was a mentor then, and still to this day he mentors me." I looked up at her.

"You know in the outside world people write stories about all of you. They've gotten a few things right, but most is wrong." She said as she traced the rim of her glass. "How old is this compound?" I choked on my drink at her question. I swallowed hard.

"We'll that is a complicated question. I don't have the right answer." I said trying to draw away from the topic. "How do you like your accommodations?"

"It's cold and cramped and rats crawl all over you." She said with a shiver.

"If the rats are there it means it's one of the warm cabins. If you don't like the accommodations you can always come stay with me. I can take you under my wing as my protégé." I looked up at her. "It would have to be approved by Brian, but it can be done."

"What does a protégé do?"

"I take care of you and you lead my legacy. Weather it be through my teachings or other methods." I looked her up and down. "But you could move in and you would be taken from your current training to train with me. No more cold cabins, no more running endless laps, no more dirty jobs like deer gutting. You would just train and watch me. Shadow everything I do."

"Aren't you an elite? Can't you make these kinds of decisions?"

"I get some say. In all reality Brian doesn't even fully make the final decision, the master does. But Brian won't bring it to him if he sees you unfit for the change. It all depends on how you do during training, and your intuitive on the field. If you show improvement and surpass your expectations you'll have a higher chance." I explained to the woman in front of me. "I know you are worth more than they have you doing."
