"Excuse me, where are the pickles?" I ask the store worker. He points down an aisle where I see my lovely pickles sitting there in all their glory. I grab three jars and make my way around the store.
Sydney wants me to come over to her house today so I'm contemplating getting a couple of bottles of wine. I grab two bottles and place them in my cart. I look through the aisles to see if I have anything else I need.
"Adelaide," I hear my name being called. I look back and see Zane walking toward me. The last time I saw him I left him on a pier bench asleep.
I feel so bad.
"Oh hi," I say.
"Wow seems like you're going to have a good night, wine and pickles," He smiles looking at my cart. My cheeks heat up with embarrassment. Why am I always embarrassing myself in front of this guy?
I feel a buzz coming from my back pocket and check to see who it is.
Sugar momma: Sorry girl I have to cancel, my fam randomly showed up at my house.
Me: Nah you're good, have fun with ur fam! Love ya!
Sugar momma: Love you too!!!!!!!!!
I smile at the texts. Sydney and I have met up every day since I've known her and we've become best friends. I've only known her for five days but we clicked instantly. One day she was a stranger and the next, we were getting drunk on her couch and complaining about work. That day we also agreed that I was her sugar baby and she was my sugar momma.
"Who's sugar momma?" I look up to see Zane staring over my shoulder reading my texts. "Excuse me, sir, this is private business," I say hiding my phone in my chest. "Are you like a sugar baby or something?"
"Oh my god no my friend and I got drunk and decided to call each other that," I say giggling. "But now she's canceling?" he asks. "Yeah, I guess. But it's fine. I'll find something else to do," I say about to put the boddles back.
"We can hang out if you want," He says. I look at him with a smile. "Sure, but I want to get a couple of those one-dollar shots."
I pay for my stuff and leave with Zane. "Whose car do you want to take?" I ask. "How about we walk?" He asks. My face lights up and we start walking to the park.
"Wait let me see your hands?" he asks. I hold up my hands with the bags in them. He quickly takes the bags from me and walks off. This man.
"If you wanted to hold the bags then you just had to tell me," I swing my arms. "I thought you would put up a bigger fight," he chuckles holding all three bags in his hands.
We finally reach the park and lay down on the grass. This park isn't necessarily a park where kids play it's more of an abandoned playground with a large grass area. "Shit, I forgot the cups for the wine," I say looking in the bags.
"It's fine we can drink from the bottle," he says sitting down. I open the wine bottle and take the first sip.
