Adelaide Dove Hindley is a young woman with too many problems to bear. After an abusive episode with her boyfriend, she runs to the pier. She just wanted to escape her life and have some peace but when she finds herself about to jump she doesn't kno...

It's been hours and I still haven't seen Dove. At this point, I just want to know if she's alive. I'm sure they would have told me if she was dead but it's hard not having confirmation.
It feels like I've been waiting in here for an eternity. I sit in a stiff chair that feels like it's about to break at any moment. I can't help but pace every once in a while. You can hear beeping coming from her room and people talking.
It's torture I can't go in and see her.
I knew she was in bad shape by the split second I saw her. Even with black and blue covering her body, she still looks like the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.
The first time I saw her it was crazy seeing how beautiful she was. Beauty can solve a lot of problems but abuse isn't one of them. It was confusing because of how beautiful she was, I was shocked when she told me she wasn't with some hot, rich, hunk but instead a lowlife loser with a drinking problem.
And she doesn't have just beauty, she has smarts and kindness. I've never met someone like her. She has a heart for all things. Most people are scared of bees, but not her. She will happily pick up a tired bee and put it on the closest plant.
One time, I saw her carry a bee just for the hell of it. It's so strange to me that she wants to hold something that she knows can hurt her.
I've always been freaked out over bugs. Especially the ones that can hurt you.
"Zane Foster you are welcome to see her if you'd like." I look up to see an old nurse with dark skin and a blank expression.
I get out of my chair and follow the nurse into Dove's room.
When I look at the bed I can see my girl lying almost lifeless. The beeps coming from the heart rate monitor are the only thing that's keeping me from thinking she's dead. She is lying in angel white sheets and a yellow hospital gown complimenting her cheekbones.
She's pale and has bruises covering her neck in the shape of hand marks.
Strangulation.
You can see where his nails dug into her delicate skin as he tried to take her life with the hands she once held onto.
I moved to the chair that sat next to her as she continued to lie still. I look at her, examine her, and beg god to let me be closer to her. But nothing is going to feel like relief until I can see her eyes look at me.
"She's very lucky to be alive. 30 seconds later she would have been gone." I look to the nurse as I sit with tears glistening over my eyes thinking how I could have lost her.
30 seconds later, I would have been at the morgue looking under white sheets to see if Dove was under one of them.
I grab her limp hand seeing the IV digging into her skin.
Another thing I'm afraid of is needles. When I was a kid, my mom would have to hold me down kicking and screaming to have the nurse give me a shot.
Now because it's socially unacceptable to be scared of shots at my age, I suck it up and pretend I'm not on the verge of tears.
My Dove has been through so much, so it's good to see her rest. I don't think I've ever seen her so peaceful. Her complections soften and her cheekbones become more pronounced when she's asleep.

"Omg Adelaide you need to try this!" Steph yells over to me
"What is it?" I question looking at the clear liquid.
"Girl stop questioning everything! Have fun and drink this, trust me you will feel amazing." I can feel my heart rushing in my chest as I take the shot up to my lips.
If this is what it takes to have friends.
I throw the shot to the back of my throat feeling an immediate burn. It feels like fire running down my body. I shiver for a second as I adjust to the taste.
"Dear- God- what the fuck was that-" I say in between coughs.
"Don't worry you'll get used to it," Steph giggles as she hands me another one.
