I've been trying to call Dove but she's not answering. I wanted to see if she wanted to come over or go do something. I've been craving her presence more than usual. I tried texting her asking if she was ok but that was three hours ago and still no response. She usually texts back within 5 munites and even if she doesn't she'll get back to you once she sees you texted.
What if something happened? What if she got hurt or someone tried to do something to her?
I try to shake the thoughts out of my head but my gut is telling me something is wrong.
Better to be safe than sorry I guess.
I grab my keys and phone walk out the door and drive to Dove's apartment. On the way there I turn on the radio, "Man on the run and wanted by police for breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house and attempting to murder her. He has not been caught and we have yet to find out the state of the victim and the attacker's name. We suspect he-" I turn off the radio feeling bad for the woman.
I drive the rest of the way in silence until I get a block away from Dove's apartment complex. Once I turn the corner I see a huge crowd of people standing outside the apartments with reporters and dozens of cops. There is caution tape surrounding the building and people trying to get a peek into the rooms.
What the fuck is going on?
Man on the run and wanted by police for breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house and attempting to murder her. He has not been caught and we have yet to find out the state of the victim and the attacker's name we suspect he-
Where the fuck is Adelaide!?
I flip my car around and drive to the hospital.
I drive as fast as I can without hitting anything and get to the hospital in less than ten munites.
Man on the run and wanted by police for breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house and attempting to murder her. He has not been caught and we have yet to find out the state of the victim and the attacker's name-
Her getting hurt is the only thing I can think about.
Why did I not protect her? How could I just let him leave?
My tires screech into the parking lot making tire marks on the perfect white lines of the parking spaces. It feels like everything is moving so fast but so slow at the same time. I can feel my breath pick up at the sight of the hospital knowing I don't have any control.
I run through the parking lot and the glass doors. I find my way to the reception desk "Adelaide Dove Hindly? Is she here?" I frantically ask the man at the desk. He types her name into his computer, "She is, but we need an ID and how you are associated with Ms. Hindly," he tells me. I dig into my pocket trying to find my wallet. I got my brown leather wallet and shakily gave him my ID. "I'm her fiance", I simply tell him.
He looks up at me holding my ID, looking shocked. "I apologize, Mr. Foster she is on floor 5 room 109," He tells me. I take back my ID and run to the elevator trying to get to her as fast as I can.
It feels like my steps are growing heavy as I step outside the elevator and find her room. Time slows as I look at the dull hallways and the dirty yellow chairs people cry in. I stand, looking at her room number knowing she's behind the door. I shakily place the cold nob into my hand and twist it open, but before I can fully open the door I hear people begin to yell.
"Code blue! Get the shocks!" I hear a nurse yell. Tears gather in my eyes as I see my Adelaide looking sad, bruised, and lifeless in a hospital bed. Even without a look of life she still looked breathtaking and that alone made me begin to sob. My chest filled with a tightness I could not explain as it fell to my stomach and a sting gathered in my throat.
Alarms began to ring and nurses and doctors piled into the room as they tore off her white gown trying to revive her. Her small body jumped with volts as they tried to shock her back to life. "Two hundred volts," The nurse said as she continued to lay still. "Three hundred volts." "Mr. Foster you can't be in here. You need to leave," a woman in a white coat said to me.
She looked blurry and slow. Everything was moving at a snail's pace, even my tears seemed to drop in slow motion. Now I couldn't hear anything as she grabbed my arm, took me outside, and sat me down in a chair. I saw her leave and go back into Adelaide's room as I tried to collect myself.
