Heyyyy, so writing is a little new to me so I really hope this turns out okay and interests some of you. Just a heads up, I'm hoping that when I have completed this series I'll be able to republish it to suit different people's pronouns, but for now I'm going to use my own pronouns (they/them) as I think it makes the story pretty universal for all folks who want to read it anyway ! But it will be a lesbian storyline. I won't be going too into detail about cases cause I feel like it's an aspect I'd be so focused on getting right that I neglected the main storyline which will be a y/n x Emily storyline.

I'm totally open to suggestions if anyone has any. This first part is more to set the scene than anything but it won't be long before things starts to evolve! Hope you like it! (Writing in italics is your thoughts)

TW: anxiety

You woke with a jolt to your watch vibrating on your wrist. Ugh. You tapped it about 4 times before it stopped and you shut your eyes again, hoping to resume the first full nights sleep you'd had in about a week.

SHIT!

You opened your eyes wide and scrambled to get up as quickly as your heavy head would let you. You grabbed your phone and saw a missed call from Garcia and a text that read:

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you gotta get up kidda... we've got a case.

Crap.

You lifted yourself onto your feet, grabbed your towel and headed to the bathroom. Taking your baggy T-shirt, underwear and finally your watch off, you climbed into the shower, the hot water feeling like a warm hug. You washed your body as fast as you could but the water was so nice you had to peel your head off the wall of the shower and force yourself to get out into the crisp cold air.

Coffee. I need coffee.

You darted back into your room, quickly dried yourself and pulled on some clothes before your whole body froze. Before you could even think about makeup you made your way to the kitchen and flipped the kettle on. Whilst you waited you thought about what the team had been saying all week.

An old agent, familiar to the team but completely new to you, was returning back to the team today after working for Interpol for several years.

Emily Prentiss.

The team seemed so excited for her return, and you were hopeful you'd get on just as well with her as the rest of the team. But you couldn't help but work yourself up over it.

What if she doesn't like you? What if, once she's back, everyone gets bored of the new person? What if she doesn't think you're good enough for the team?

The sound of the kettle clicking brought you out of your thoughts just in time. You made your coffee and headed back into your bedroom, knowing you wouldn't have time to drink it unless you multitasked.

Sitting at your desk you grabbed some concealer, powder, bronzer and mascara and started trying to cover up your sleep deprivation.

I don't know how everyone else looks so good all the time on so little sleep.

When you were finished you practically downed your coffee and grabbed your go bag. Pulling your keys out and checking your headphones were in there, you grabbed your coat off the hook and made your way out the door, checking it had locked itself.

Please don't let me have forgotten something.

You got into your car, throwing your go bag into the passenger seat. Connecting your phone to your car radio, you clicked the song 'lonely' by Machine Gun Kelly on Spotify, popped your phone next to your go bag and set off to work.
