⚠️EDIT: please do not give out tips on how to engage in bulimic behaviours or ask for them in the comments. i want the comments to be a safe space for readers, not a how-to on eating disorders. any comments endorsing bulimia will & have been deleted.⚠️
TW: eating disorders are the main topic for this chapter, please don't read if you think it's going to trigger you. It gets a little more intense than the previous chapters, but I don't want to ruin the storyline by giving it away in the warning. If it'd help to know what exactly is mentioned, please dm me, I'd be happy to tell you.
Hope u enjoy x
'What?' You asked. You were expecting her to put you on the spot a little, but this was something else.
'Do you?' Emily asked, determined to get an answer.
'No...' you pulled your eyebrows in and turned your head to the side a little, '...why would you ask me that?'
Probably because you haven't done a good enough job at hiding it.
'The way you snapped at Reid earlier.' Emily said seriously.
'That wasn't about the...doughnuts.' You said, emphasising how silly that deduction seemed.
'I thought that too. I thought maybe something else was going on. So I got thinking...' Emily said, as she dropped her handbag to the floor and started taking her coat off.
Here we go...
'...and I was trying to figure out why you'd be so irritable that you'd snap at Reid, of all people. One of your best friends.' Your heart sank a little at that reminder. 'I was thinking about the time we've spent together on this case, and I realised that I haven't seen you eat once.'
'I...' you started, but Emily held her finger out to stop you and continued.
'And then I thought about before that, with the bagel and the coffee I got you. I get that maybe you might not have wanted to tell me you didn't like bagels or whatever, but the coffee?' She raised her eyebrows. 'You were desperate for a coffee when I offered to get you one, and then you ended up throwing it away.'
You were so stressed trying to figure out how you were going to convince Emily that none of this was true that you couldn't even interrupt her anymore.
'And then I remembered you'd started drinking black coffee recently.' She pointed out. 'You've always had sugar and milk in your coffee, and then one day, after those few days we both had off, you stopped.' Emily paused for a moment, coming to the end of her list of evidence.
You were staring at the ground as Emily started to walk towards you. She placed both her hands on either side of your arms, making you look up at her.
'It's not like that.' You squeaked, still trying to piece together the lie you needed to tell.
'Then what is it y/n? Because I can't help you if you don't tell me what's wrong.' Emily said, lowering her head to try and reason with you.
'I don't have a problem with food.' Was all you could say. Emily tilted her head, clearly not convinced.
'I think you do.' She said warmly. From that, you figured out that she thought you didn't realise you had a problem. She thought this was the first time you'd ever struggled with this.
That just makes this all the more pathetic if I tell her she's right. 'Oh yeah, by the way I wanted to get sick again so I could get back the control I had taken away from me by you looking out for me. Getting sick again was my intention.'
