TW: car accident, torture, hospitals, injuries

This was actually the main storyline I had in my head when I started writing this book, but everything before felt necessary as background info. I've noticed a lot of writers skip over events like these quite quickly, but I wanted to drag it out a little to make it feel as eventful as it would be in an episode.

Anyway, I hope you're enjoying it so far. Always love hearing feedback :)

'Prentiss?' Hotch fell to his knees next to the upended car. 'Prentiss, can you hear me?' He reached out to turn Emily's face towards him. 'Emily?' He asked desperately.

'Derek?' Rossi crouched on the drivers side, trying to wake Morgan. 'Wake up, Derek.'

'Spencer?' JJ was trying to calm Reid down. He was awake but not alert, and panicking at his surroundings. 'Spence, it's okay. You were in a crash. You're alright.' She reassured him.

'Prentiss, can you hear me?' Hotch repeated as Emily's eyes began to flutter open. As she fully came to, she realised she was upside down and started to panic. 'It's okay, just relax.' Hotch said calmly. 'You were in an accident.' Emily's eyes switched from taking in her surroundings to looking at Hotch, blood pouring down his face. 'We all were.' He said quietly.

'What happened?' Morgan asked, as he started to feel around the car as he was coming round.

'An accident.' Rossi said. 'Try and stay still, help is on the way.' Rossi looked past Morgan to the empty space where you should have been. He looked back at Hotch through the window, and they both exchanged glances.

'Emily...' Hotch started, Emily still taking in her surroundings. 'Where's Y/n?' He asked. At that, Emily's panic set in even more. She tried to turn around in her seat, but she was trapped in place.

'Wha... what do you mean where are they? Are they okay?' Emily asked frantically. Reid, after hearing Hotch, turned to see the empty space next to him. He reached out his arm and felt the chair next to him, as if he was reaching for you but you weren't there.

Hotch decided not to say anymore, not wanting to panic Emily even more. Instead, he stood up, swiping some blood away from his eye, and started scanning the area around him. Rossi did the same on the opposite side of the car.

As sirens filled the air around them, they waited for the paramedics and fire brigade to arrive before they left everyone else. As the firemen got to work removing the doors to gain access to the team, Hotch and Rossi left JJ to comfort everyone as they searched for you.

'Are you thinking what I'm thinking?' Rossi asked, after a few minutes of looking for you.

'We don't know that for sure. They could have been ejected from the car.' Hotch replied, keeping his attention on the ground as he looked for any sign of you. Rossi looked sideways at him, not feeling quite as optimistic as him.

You woke up choking, unable to breathe. Strong fumes filled your nostrils and burnt your eyes. You tried to move your arms, but they were trapped behind you. As you choked, trying to find air for what felt like forever, you heard laughing in front of you.

As you eventually managed to open your eyes, your eyes adjusted just enough to make out James Wood in front of you holding a petrol can. Your head was throbbing as you looked around frantically, trying to figure out where you were.

'Don't look so shocked!' Wood laughed, approaching you slowly. 'I told you I'd get to you.' As he got closer you studied him. You pulled at the restraints on your arms without any luck. You could feel metal behind you, as the handcuffs clattered against them.
