Chapter Cover: Eve standing by herself as she looked out toward the expending sea in front of her...
"I honestly didn't expect something like this to happen," Mavis Vermillion spoke out as she was frowning to herself, staring at me.
I had just finished retelling her everything that had happened in the past few days with Sakura's sudden appearance in Alvarez. The soldiers have found no trace of the said girl in the city thought that didn't stop their effort in guarding the city. Patrols were visible throughout the city as the port was under heavy surveillance. With Mui Space Magic, they were a low chance of people actually finding them.
"I did my job," I told her simply, "I managed to make them think that I've turned my back on Fairy Tail. I honestly didn't expect anyone to actually find me in Alvarez."
Mavis glanced at me but she didn't say anything.
"With what had happened," I continued, "Their trust in me haven't been shaken, despite everything."
"Then we'll continue to act as such," Mavis told me, "Fairy Tail will probably soon be aware of what you have been doing these past months, and you'll become an enemy in their eyes. Are you sure you can handle the burden Eve?"
I let out a slow breath, tightening my joined hands together.
"I made the decision to be your eyes and ears here in this Kingdom," I told her giving her a hard glance, "I knew that there was a possibility of something like this happening. I will bear all of this pain and heartache if it means that my friends will laugh and smile again without this threat hanging above them."
Gentle hands touched my face and I instantly look up finding myself staring straight into the viridian of the golden haired young child in front of me. There was a deep kindness in those eyes as she stared at me and I can even feel the tears falling from my eyes.
"To sacrifice this much," Mavis whispered softly.
"I made a vow Mavis," I told her simply.
Mavis nodded, "But promises me you won't sacrifice your own life. I know I asked a lot of you for you to come here and be my eyes and ears…but your life is still an important part of Fairy Tail, even if no one else will know of it."
I nodded at her, taking hold of the small hands that were upon my face.
"Thank you Master," I told her simply.
Then the world around me was gone and I was once again back in my chambers. I was seating on my bed with my head bowed and the small lacrima still in my palm. I can feel the tears that were falling from my eyes and I took care of them before making sure I was ready for today.
Dressing myself in my Shield outfit, which was my usual whites and the coat which was hanging on the left side of my outfit, I made my way out of the room and through the hallways of the castle. It was already past noon from how hot it actually was as we were approaching the summer month. In my mind, the last time I was in the summer was when we were getting ready for the Grand Magic Games in July. I couldn't help the small smirk that grew upon my face as I remembered those times when she was training to regain my magic back at Totomaru's place…
I still remember the young man that had been my friend there as we crossed swords in her training and I even remember the festival she had gone with him. I remember Mai, and her kindness as we spoke sometimes to each other over the time I had stayed with her and I even remembered Totomaru and Mei's son.
That was the calm time before the storm, before the Grand Magic Games and all the craziness that had followed in those times. It was strange, to think that all of that happened just the previous year and yet, it felt longer than that…it felt like so long ago.
