The sound of rusty chains squeaked out into the night air as Wednesday rocked gently on the swing. Y/N wasn't sure what time it was- but she did know it was late. She didn't much care. It had been two long weeks days since Wednesday Addams had confessed her feeling towards Y/N. While once inseparable, in the last two days, Y/N hadn't dared look in the pale girls direction. So why were that sat together in a pitch black park, silently listening to what the breeze had to say? Y/N didn't know- but she was afraid.

Not one word had been passed between them since Y/N arrived at the location Wednesday had specified. She walked up to the swings where Wednesday was already situated, sat and since that moment they had been sitting in silence. While Wednesday looked out towards the surrounding shrubbery and trees- Y/N couldn't stomach doing anything but stare at the void-like ground beneath her.

She couldn't respond when Wednesday told her that she had feelings for her- they had been friends for so long and in just a few sentences, their friendship had seemingly shattered. Gone were the days when Y/N would cling onto Wednesdays arms while she moped around, giving every passer-by a death stare. No longer would they go out for food together- or write poems together. Because they couldn't go back to the way things were before. How could they?

Y/N did feel guilty for not giving Wednesday a response though. She remembered stonewalling her confession and walking in the opposite direction to which they had been heading. But how could she just give an answer when something so big had just been thrown at her. But perhaps worse than her guilt was the fact she didn't have her rock by her side anymore- she could always count on her Wednesday, but she couldn't do that anymore. She was scared. Scared of how unsure she was of herself and how to respond but also scared of what would happen to them.

If it weren't for Wednesday, Y/N had no idea where she would be. Wednesday was her shield from prying eyes- her diary for uncertain times. If soulmates could be friends than that's what they were. But soulmates couldn't be friends, could they?

Drawing in air to her lungs, Y/N searched her flooded heart for any ounce of courage she might have had. "Hey, Nes'?" She spoke softly. While her gaze was unwavering, she could see Wednesday straightening up beside her from the corner of her eye- like she was bracing for impact.

A silence grew that lasted a few seconds before Wednesday spoke up. "Yeah?" She asked as her eyes fell on the pretty girl beside her. She looked so lost and afraid- like a fawn who had lost it's mother.

Being so unsure of how she felt made her next words difficult. There was no denying she loved Wednesday- she loved all of her friends. But she was having a hard time picking out the silhouettes of live and friendship. How could such a task be done when your left in the dark? All silhouettes looked the same in the dark. "Listen, if... if I uh... if I tell you that I don't like you the same way you like me, then what do you think will happen to us?" She asked. When she finished her question, she met Wednesday's peering gaze. She could see know how unsettled Wednesday looked with a shifting gaze and fidgeting hands.

It was Wednesday's turn now to stair into the black concrete. Her shell had been broken by Y/N a long time ago. They had been best friends since middle school- and now... now she had gone and ruined everything that they had. She was certain that Y/N held none of the feelings that she harboured and it was painful. It hurt right in her chest- but she was strong and she knew she couldn't just run away and pretend that she didn't slip up. She needed to face her consequences. Own up to her mistakes and get the answers that she needed. "Then I'll keep liking you... I'll still like you like I do now." A sad smile formed on her lips as she met Y/N's gaze once more. "And I will accept that you can't... won't return my feelings."

Y/N's head pulled away as she closed her eyes. An wall of heavy wind pushed through them, making their swings sway for a moment before the breeze calmed once more. "A-And what if I say I do like you?" She asked as her voice wavered.

"What?"

Y/N's eyes slowly opened though brimming with tears. "What if we get together now... and then break up someday?" She carried on shakily as her fingers tugged on one another in her lap. "But I don't want us to stay like this either. I-I just.... I cant loose you, y'know. What if we mess things up too much and we can't even stand the sight of each other- I couldn't like that." She added. The more she spoke, the more she felt as though the black concrete was swallowing her whole- engulfing her like her feelings engulfed her heart in a vicious attack. She was almost certain that she could hear Wednesday laughing beside her- or maybe she was sobbing?

Wednesday got up from her swing and knelt down in front of Y/N, blocking her view of the black abys bellow. "Is that what was troubling you?" She questioned as she peered up into Y/N's brimming eyes.

Y/N nodded softly as she gazed back. "I don't know what were supposed to do..." She whispered as her bottom lip trembled- failing under the heavy weight of her words.

"Listen, Y/N." Wednesday grabbed a hold of Y/N's hands and took them in her own, resting them in her lap so she had her full attention. Her skin was so soft. She had felt it so many times and pushed away such thoughts but now she had nothing to hide, from herself or from Y/N "My feelings for you will never change. No matter what." She reassured with a rare and small smile. "So trust me. You don't have to worry."

A grin grew on Y/N's lips like a fungus growing in the wet conditions created by her tears as the dam broke. She was defenceless as Wednesday reached her arms around Y/N's neck, pulling her close into an embrace. One of Wednesday's hands ran the lengths of the back of Y/N's hair and the back of her head- cradling her as she had craved to do so for so long.

The familiar safety of the crook of Wednesday's neck was too much to resist as the tears flooded and a mixture of sobs and happy laughter escaped her. Her thin arms wrapped around Wednesday's midriff. "I-I love you." She managed to choke out.

Wednesday smiled as tears of her own began to brim. "I've waited too long to hear you say that." She laughed.
