Wednesday Addams was a hopeless romantic. Those would be her own words to describe her own romantic state. She fell in love with every other person who even muttered a 'thank you' or a 'morning' in her direction- which, admittedly, was uncommon thanks to her off-putting demeanor.
But ultimately, the point still stood- her international compass followed her heart and her heart wanted compassion.
You'd think that a school of misfits and oddities would be grounds for romantic success for someone like Wednesday Addams. She had thought so too for a while, but as days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, she became increasingly sure that she'd spend every painstaking day of her life in solitary isolation. Her heart would be forever bound by the prison that was her ribcage.
Though, perhaps that would be for the best. She had already seen how easily manipulated she could be when falling head over heels for someone- it was frightening how she could flip on a dime from a detached, heartless freak to an obsessive daydreamer. Truly one extreme to another.
Y/N looked down at the pale girl seated beside him for what might have been the fifteenth time. Her dead, bleak eyes had been stuck on him for the past ten minutes of their ancient runes class and she hadn't even spoken a word to him. Hell- this was the first time he'd had any interaction with her at all.
This was his fourteenth day at Nevermore, and he had either already met someone who would scoop his body of its guts or offer him friendship- he was still trying to gage which of the two it was. It was hard to tell if he had offended her when he had greeted her- or perhaps she had simply never seen a boy before and she was dumbfounded that such a creature could exist.
This wasn't the first time he had seen her- he had noticed her from time to time, usually at lunch where she mostly sat alone. He couldn't blame anyone for not approaching her- if looks could kill, there would be no one left in the school. He hadn't intended on siting beside her at all- it just so happened that he was late and the only seat left seemed to be in orbit of the small girl.
While he was unsure, he had heard a few people refering to her as 'Wednesday'. He thought it was a name beyond odd, if that was what she was called. Why the hell would someone name their child after a day of the week? He didn't know- but he knew it had a ring to it.
"You don't even blink, huh?" Y/N muttered, thought it seemed as it was only him who heard his words as the girl remained unresponsive. He frowned a little at this. He wasn't completely uncomfortable- she was pretty, so he felt somewhat honoured that she was staring at him- he just wished that he knew for sure she wasn't about to shove a cleaver into his skull.
"Hey." He whispered as his outstretched index finger made contact with her shoulder. He could feel how thin she was through the academy blazer- she felt fragile- like if he was too rough, even poking her would make her shatter. On the plus side, it appeared he had broken her out of whatever sort of trance she was in. Though she still didn't acknowledge him.
He watched as her lips pursed tighter together and her eyelids widened. But, instead of responding, her head turned towards the front of the class like some sort of possessed doll.
Now it was his turn to stare. With a narrowed gaze, he now paid no attention to what the teacher was trying to explain, instead watching for any guilty reaction on the girls features. There was nothing if not a light blush on her cheeks, though he wasn't certain.
"I'm Y/N." Y/N introduced quietly.
"I know." Wednesday responded. She had this unique ability to seemingly speak without moving barely any muscles in her face. With furrows brows, he also looked forward- perplexed by her response. How did she know his name, perhaps she knew his dorm roommate. But then again, she didn't seem like the kind to make many friends, especially with the male type.
"Alright..." He grumbled as the pen he held in his hand tapped on the stained wood table. "That's a little creepy." He added.
The girl nodded her head. "I know." She simply responded. She doubted he remembered it, but this wasn't the very first time they had encountered one another- just a few days ago, he had smiled at her as he passed by her table at lunch. After that, Wednesday went to Enid, demanding to know who he was, where he was from, what he could do. Having, finally broken free of her daydream, she found herself annoyed. Not with him- but with herself. She did this every time. Think up a whole lifetime with someone she didn't even know. He could be anyone- a creep, a murderer, a convicted abuser, completely insane- and she would have no idea. And yet, there she was, reflecting on years of marriage that they never had.
She had lost track of the amount of times she had scolded herself for falling into the same habit again and again-and yet she couldn't help but keep doing it. She'd lived so many lives with so many people despite having hardly spoken to any of them- if at all. She exhaled deeply. "I'm Wednesday." She spoke up again, returning the introduction. After the words left her mouth, she turned to look up at Y/N once more, this time to find he was staring at her this time- once again, a confused disposition on his features.
As if she could read his mind, Wednesday let more words silently leave her lips. "I know it's a... odd name."
"Yeah..." Y/N murmured in agreement. His head cocked as he took in her features once again. There really wasn't any denying her slightly macabre beauty. A slight smirk grew on his lips as he shrugged his shoulders lightly, their eyes locking. "It suits you though. It's endearing." He decided before he pulled his gaze away bringing the tip of his pen down on the paper.
Wednesday felt like her ribs had been torn open, by either his seemingly kind words or her rapidly thumping heart. Her lips quivered as she tried to find the right words to respond. "I..." She breathed as her hands rubbed together in her lap. "I really like you..." Wednesday uttered quietly.
Y/N's head turned to look at her, a light smile on his features. "Hmm? Did you say something?" He asked.
Once more, her cheeks showed signs of colour as she blinked a few times. She shook her head. "Nothing."
Y/N responded by bouncing his shoulders and facing forward again. His pen met the paper again as he scribbled down a few words on the corner of his page. Tearing the corner off, he scrunched it up and placed it in the middle of Wednesday's notebook. He turned his attention back to his note-taking.
Wednesday furrowed her brows as she watched him. Taking the small ball of paper, she delicately unfolded it. Upon reading the words, she made an attempt on hiding the wide smile that grew on her pale lips- as though she had been gifted a fresh new corpse to examine, she became giddy. At least, by her standards.
