Y/N sat at his usual bench in the quad. He would often sit with those he called his friends- Ajax, Xavier, Enid- and of course his girlfriend, Wednesday, who he had been dating for the past few months. They would sit together every lunch- without fail, like it was a ritual- which is why he was so perplexed when neither Enid or Wednesday showed up one afternoon.

His food sat in front of him and Ajax sat to his right. The pair conversed with one another as they ate- more than likely discussing the negatives of having clingy girlfriends (although Y/N wouldn't change Wednesday's newfound clinginess for anything). It had been a learning curve for the both of them. When he first met Wednesday, she struggled to even brush hands with him- never mind hold hands. She seemed like the type that liked her personal space to be just that- personal, but when it came to him- it was as if the coin was flipped to the other side.

Y/N took a bite out of his BLT sandwich when Xavier took his usual position to Ajax's left. "No Enid or Wednesday today?" He questioned the two as he sat down, placing his own lunch down on the bench. Y/N glanced at what he had- guessing it was some sort of burrito.

Y/N sighed and shook his head slightly. "I was with her this morning before class." He spoke, looking towards the empty spot beside him. It felt foreign to him- not having Wednesday's hand on his thigh or head on his shoulder. "She seemed short."

"She is short." Ajax tuned in- his mouth filled with his pesto pasta, clearly mistaking the meaning behind his friend's words as he so often did. He wasn't the brightest spark and Y/N was fairly certain that no two brain cells could be active in his mind at once, but Ajax had his moments.

Y/N shook his head, simply rolling his eyes rather than correcting him. "Shorter than usual, like she was peeved with me or something." He muttered with a sigh. "What about Enid- you seen her today?" Y/N asked.

Ajax shook his head. "No. He answered plainly before taking a hefty bite out of his pasta pot- his teeth scraping along the metal fork as he pulled the food off, making Y/N cringe at the sound. Ajax didn't often get on his nerves- but his eating habits certainly did. Unlike Xavier on the other hand, who was constantly on his nerves.

Xavier smirked smugly as he unwrapped the aluminium foil from around his bean burrito. Y/N raised a brow as he caught sight of his expression- and Xavier only snickered. "See, being single isn't so bad, huh?" Xavier mocked.

Y/N rolled his eyes once more at Xavier's false pride. "Yeah- because everyone else rejected your ass because no one can take your shit." Y/N bit back, shaking his head. He watched as Xavier's disposition faltered as he appeared dejected. From the corner of his eye, Y/N could see a small crowd forming. This wasn't uncommon in the quad- many people gathered together to discuss the latest gossip and what not- but this crowd was growing in size and volume.

Y/N turned his attention to the ball of figures and just about caught a glimpse of one girl trying to hold another back. A smirk grew on his lips. He nudged Ajax with his elbow to catch his attention, and once he had it, he nodded towards the mass of figures. "Look at those two idiots about to fight." He muttered with an amused grin.

Ajax wore his traditional grin as he looked in the direction of the growing crowd. His smile faded. "Isn't that your idiot?" He asked with knitted brows and narrowed eyes as he tried to focus in on the shortest figure in the crowd- the one being held back.

Upon a more careful look, Y/N could make out a small girl with jet black hair- who had a very agitated expression on her features. His smile dropped. "Shit." Was all he muttered before he scrambled from his seat.

Each stride grew with urgency as the shouts and jeers became louder and louder the closer he got. It wasn't like Wednesday to be so public with an altercation- usually she would slip something into the antagonists water or put fire ants in their pillows- never had he seen her try to tear someone's head from their neck in front of a whole crowd.
