I finally got to see my daughter Athena after 13 years and she has changed a lot. Today when I saw her standing in the living room during the afternoon my heart was overwhelmed I could not go to the airport to pick her up because Adam had his parents-teacher meeting at the same time. She has grown into such a pretty lady, so elegant, but has cold eyes which lack emotions. I gave her a small slime and went for a tight hug. A cold Hi is what I got for a reply. I asked her many questions but she didn't reply to any maybe she is not comfortable but I was shattered when she said about her younger brother. Why had he not gone to a boarding school and did I miss her or is this all for formalities? After picking up her coffee cup, she just got up and headed for her room. I fear and am scared of her if she continues to be like what will happen in the future. I know I cannot complain and whine about her and their behaviour because we all know it's our fault. Sending her to boarding was at least better until we never paid any visit to her for the past 13 years. It's dinner time Adam insisted on going and bringing his sister downstairs.

The relationship between them has very rare chances of being better. A few minutes later they come down, and Adam comes down before Athena. Not a word from her nor towards her father or me. Joe speaks to her about learning the business similar to the one I asked about earlier. She didn't like the fact that Adam was sitting beside her but she didn't do anything. Finally, Joe spoke about marriage and handed her the file of Aurora Abel. She gave no reaction instead filliped the file open and read only the introduction column and closed the file. She looked like she was deep in her thoughts when Joe was speaking to her but the thing that bother me was that she wasn't eating anything. Did she not like this food? Or was she allergic? I didn't not anything about my daughter. "Athena" she didn't respond still staring at a blank space on the table. "Athena" did not respond but Adam shook her lightly that's when she snapped out of her thoughts what was she thinking so deeply? Why aren't you eating anything do u not like it I will tell the chef to cook something else for you I asked concerned. Her answer was vague like I don't eat dinner, I will just eat some fruits.

At her behaviour, joe looked concerned too. I knew he didn't feel good looking at our daughter like this but he just looked at me and gave me a small smile and I smiled back. After dinner, I headed for Athena's room, I just want to talk to her. She opens the room after a knock. She opens the door but stands there awkwardly "do you need anything?" scratching the back of her neck. " you can call me mom you know. " she just nods. She moves aside and invites me in. "You know you have a choice about marriage right? If you don't want to then.." I get cut off by her small chuckle " I have a choice? that's something new to me. Do you think father gave me a choice? You are my mother and his wife who has stayed by his side like forever still you can't afford to speak against him and you want me to speak against him. You can't be serious", she said with a straight face and a cold tone. " I am sorry I couldn't be a good mother before but now that you have returned I will try being a mother to you but for the, you need to forgive me, forgive us". " why are we even having this conversation? Forgiveness is given to those you feel for, but I don't feel anything for this family, so there is no need to ask for forgiveness. Don't worry I'm not mad at you or your father I just don't feel things, and this marriage is something father and you want right? So be it I will give it to your wants like always" I was left speechless by her words. I wished her good night and left the room with a burry vision realizing this family will never be able to be happy just because of our failure, my failure at being a good mother.
