Part 5
~

By the time 7:30 rolled around she was starving so she left a note in case her Granda dropped by, and headed to the diner she and the boys had gone to a couple days ago. They still had the 'help wanted' sign in the window and she figured she'd try her luck, her face wasn't fully healed but she didn't look like she just stepped out of the morgue anymore.

A plump older woman came to the table she had sat at "What'll it be darlin'." She hadn't looked over the menu buy she knew what she wanted. "Just coffee and French toast please." She said as she passed the woman the menu. 'Darlene' her name tag read. When she came back to the table with a coffee she figured it was now or never. "Here you go darlin." "Thank you, uh are you guys still hiring?" The nervousness was well hidden much to Ashley's surprise. Darlene gave her a warm smile "yes we are, I'll get you an application." When Darlene returned with her food she slipped an application and pen onto the table as well. "Enjoy hun." And she was off.

She ate her food greedily as she stared at the paper, reading over questions she would have to answer soon. When she was done she left the application on the table, filled out with a generous tip for the older woman. She made her way back to the pub and took the cordless phone with her to her apartment, she didn't have a phone so was forced to leave the pubs number.

Again for the second time today she lost herself in her book, when the phone rang she practically dove to her bed to get to the phone. She tried to compose herself before speaking "Hello?" The voice on the other end of the line was rough but sweet. "Hello is this Sarah?" "Yes it is." She couldn't help but smile. The caller happened to be Darlene, the older woman had turned out to be the manager and was more then happy to offer the girl the position of a waitress. Ashley was giddy. She couldn't wait to see the boys and Rocco and tell them she had found a job, things were finally starting to look up.

The nightmares where still raging but if she had to deal with those every night to be able to live a normal life she could settle for that. When the conversation was over she threw her bag over her shoulder and flew out her door, on the way passed her Granda she stopped and gave him the phone. "I got a job! I'm gonna go and grab some things I need for work, I'll be back later." She didn't wait for his answer and was gone before he could ask any questions.

She visited the mall buying shoes, and a few new pieces of clothes for work. She didn't start until Friday so she still had today and tomorrow before she started. On the way home she stopped at the grocery store and picked up a few more things now that she had her car with her. When she got home she put away her groceries and her new clothes. She found herself hoping the boys would show tonight, but just in case they didn't she had bought two six packs that she would take to them if they didn't show, she was starting to miss them when she didnt see them for a while. Even if it had only been a day.

She made something to eat and watched the news for a bit before she heard a knock on her door she furrowed her eyebrows and approached the door, if it were the boys or her Granda they would make themselves known. She was startled and slightly jumped back when another loud rasp echoed from the door. "H-hello?" She questioned, her voice hitching in her throat. "Hun you in there? It's Roc." Her head fell forward in relief and she pressed her head against the door before letting out a big sigh. She opened the door to him with a big smile.

"Hey Rocco, what's up?" He shrugged "got done early, in the mood for drinkin, wanna join?" His emotions weighed heavy on his face and she knew something was upsetting him. She gave him a gentle nod and followed him down the stairs. "Go sit, I'll get us drinks." She said and pointed to a booth. He didn't argue and went to sit at a booth, when she came back with drinks his head was in his hands.
