Ashley watched excitedly from the back seat as Connor got situated in his car. Moving the seats back from Rocco's settings when he dropped off the car that morning, adjusting mirrors, playing with the radio. It wasn't new but she had gotten it professionally cleaned and it had been well-maintained.
Murphy looked at his brother as well, excited that Connor had a car to call his own. In no time they were on the road towards her grandas house. The drive was short and mostly uneventful as Connor got the feel for the new machine under his foot. When they pulled up Doc was outside smoking, something he didn't usually leave the comfort of his living room to do, but Ashley knew her ma was probably up his ass to quit so he came out here for some peace.
Ashley was anxious, although the boys had explained it, she didn't know the full extent of what happened or how the boys had fallen out with her parents. Murphy made his way out of the car and opened the door for Ashley, helping her out. He shut the door behind her and stopped her, leaning her against the car "ye okay love? We can leave if it gets too much." Ashley shook her head "I'm not mad anymore, a little confused maybe." She said with a shrug. "But this isn't the time. Let's just enjoy today."
Connor rounded the car and kissed the side of her head "ye ready?" She looked between the boys "yeah. Let's go." She said and stepped between the two as she led the way up to her grandas house. "L-L-Lass! How ye doin'?" She smiled at him and nodded "good! It's been an eventful morning." She beamed at him, playing with the locket." He smiled at her and gave her a strong hug before opening the door for them and tossing his smoke.
When she entered the living room her parents were sitting on the couch talking among themselves. When her Da noticed her he stood "Ashley." She could see it in his eyes, the guilt. She crossed the room and embraced him "I'm so sorry darlin—" Ashley pulled away, gripping his large biceps and looking him in the eye. "Stop.... merry Christmas Da, I missed you." He hugged her again before she moved on to her Ma.
"Ash, love. How have ye been?" Ashley nodded to her ma "I've been good, got these two taking care of me." She gestured back to the two boys standing by the door. They gave uncomfortable smiles to her parents before her Da spoke again. "I'm sorry." This time it was directed at the twins. She wanted to interject, say today wasn't the day to think about that stuff, but her curiosity got the best of her and she found herself falling in line beside her Ma as she watched her father try to search for the right words.
"The way I talked to you both, wasn't right. Emotions were high. I thought I was gonna lose my little girl, I thought I knew what was best for her, for us." His head dropped in shame. "I should've held out hope," his eyes rose to meet the twins again "I'm glad she has you both. You're good for her." Without missing a beat Connor smirked and replied "she's good fer us." Murphy's eyes wandered to her. "Aye, tha best damn thin ta happen ta us." Ashley blushed at their words of affection in front of her parents.
"Alright, enough mushy shit. Let's get dinner going." Ashley's ma gave her a stern look. "Language." Ashley giggled and apologized, moving to the kitchen. She didn't know if she should leave them alone, but after that talk, she felt better about it. Her ma and her started prepping things, putting together snack trays and such since no one had eaten yet.
"So, have ye given any thought ta how tis is gonna play out hun?" Ashley was chopping vegetables when her ma asked the out-of-the-blue question. "What are you talking about?" Her ma sighed as she put down the knife and picked up a rag. Wiping her hands. "This relationship. With two men."
