She said she wasn't feeling well and that she didn't need anything.
So why the fuck was I at a Chinese restaurant getting her takeout right now at 7pm on a Monday?
She didn't even want anything. But I see semi-full takeout boxes in the fridge often and I know they're hers. Plus Kofi always stops by this place to grab her Lo Mein when its his turn to get them dinner.
God, I was in the damn trenches for this woman.
I grab the order as my name is called and begin walking to her apartment.
It doesn't surprise me that I did this. It also doesn't surprise me that I know Josie isn't okay because she barely misses classes ever. She doesn't need to tell me she's not okay for me to know it.
Eventually, I make my way to her apartment door and knock. The door swings open relatively quickly.
"Beckett?"
Blanca opens the door confusedly, her eyes scanning around, probably wondering why Kofi isn't with me. I'm so grateful that she's the one who opened it; considering that if I say I'm here for Josie, she won't question it since she's not oblivious.
"I'm here for Josie." I state, hoping my assumption proves correct.
A small smile graces her sharp features, and she extends her hand to let me in. I take my shoes and coat off, hanging it up on their coat rack, wasting no time getting to her room.
I knock twice, quietly.
"Yeah, come in."
I twist the knob and walk in. I'm met with an incredibly beautiful, yet shocked, expression from Josie, clearly wondering what the fuck I'm doing and why it's not Calliope or Serena who knocked on the door.
"Hi."
"What the hell?" She questions, sitting up from her lying down position in her bed.
"You're clearly not happy to see me." I deadpan.
"No. I mean, no. I'm just surprised." She mutters.
"So you are happy to see me?" I ask, a smirk sneaking onto my features.
Josie lets a small smile slip onto her face, her freckles scrunching up as she attempts to mask it. I can see her face expressing a battle that she's clearly undergoing in her head.
"I think I'm always happy to see you, Daniels."
Fuck.
Fuck me entirely.
"Fuck. I'll never get tired of you finally saying what you're thinking." I spit out, my eyes certainly betraying the nonchalant expression I'm trying to maintain.
I didn't necessarily mean to say that out loud. But I figured if she's making those leaps, it's about time I decide to get out of my comfort zone as well.
