"You look like shit" Steve commented to Arizona as they face-timed one evening. She'd spent the last few months back on tour and now was home to finally have a well deserved rest. Even through her time off she was usually writing or recording demo's for songs.

"I wouldn't have expected you to tell me anything less, Rogers". She yawned. "I'd normally have a witty comeback, but I'm too tired to even bother to think of one". Quite frankly she wouldn't be surprised if she fell asleep on facetime to him.

Steve shifted to get more comfortable. "So what was the big emergency that you needed to speak to me about?" He now frowned, having received a message from her earlier saying: Mayday! Need to talk, please tell me you're able to!

Arizona now looked sheepish. "I can't believe I'm actually resorting to you of all people to ask this, but..." She paused, clearly working up the courage and to not feel embarrassed about it. "Will you be my plus one to my mom and Phil's wedding so that I can avoid sitting at the kids table..." She mumbled it all so fast that he had to pause to try and decipher what she'd asked.

"Wait...you're asking me to be your plus one to your mom's wedding". He repeated back to her so that they were on the same page.

"Yeah...kinda can't ask anyone else, and Eros is still on tour so he can't". She'd been hoping that her friend would help her out so as she would've have had to stoop this low - but here they were.

Steve thought for a moment. "How much are you paying me for this?"

She huffed. "You're an actor, not a male escort. You do this and I'll suck your dick before the speeches".

There was silence while he was considering the opportunity of getting blown in the middle of a wedding, well, not in the middle of the actual wedding, but at some point during the day. And before the speeches? That was generous.

"Ok, fine". He agreed. "But you do realise Phil will wanna know why I'm there".

"I'll just tell him that I didn't want the embarrassment of being the only single person there, and that Eros was busy - simple". She replied. "and thanks, I appreciate you saving my ass".

"Better follow through on your deal though". He told her. "Send me the details and I'll get Fury to make room for it".

Arizona shook her head to herself. "You know I will, anyway what have you been doing with yourself since I've been away?"

"Sharon for one". He said flatly.

Arizona had seen the pictures of the pair of them the previous week, grabbing a take out coffee while they walked her dog. Steve hadn't been pleased, knowing full well that this was bound to spurn Sharon on into making everything official now. He'd already told her that the best thing to do was say nothing about it all, not wanting her to go confirming anything, which she and her reps were likely to do.

"Ah yes...how's that going?"

"Well the media thinks we're now getting serious".

She paused. "Steve...you don't have to be my plus one if it's going to make things with you and Sharon awkward. If you're dating her? Tell me now so that we can stop this..."

He cut her off. "We're not officially dating. What I do with Sharon is pretty much the same as what I do with you, except the press now have photographic evidence which isn't helping. If we were dating then I'd have said no to helping you".

"Ok. I just wanted to be sure".

Now the awkward silence rolled in before Steve broke it. "What are you doing with your time off?"

"Writing mainly, I don't really stop as you know".

"Did you finish that song about Quentin?" He asked.

She nodded. "That's been ready to go for a while, lyrics I mean, recording it is gonna be a longer process".

Arizona really didn't know why she was bothering explaining it to him, he probably wasn't interested anyway, even if he had asked.

"Sounds complicated".

"Much like my love life in the past, which thankfully is now non existent".

He was more curious now. "You written shit about Brock?"

"Why? You gonna tell him?"

Steve snorted. "You really think I would when he admitted to me that he'd cheated on you?"

Arizona was shocked. "He said that? Wait...why we're you talking about me?" She now asked worriedly.

"I wanted to know if he did what you said he had, so I thought I'd find out for myself".

"Because you thought I was lying..."

He paused. "It wasn't that".

She became upset. "So what was it Steve? Geez this is why I don't trust people! And the fact you thought I was lying? You still think I'm some villain who comes out with all this just for sympathy don't you?"

"Ari..."

"Whatever, I have to go write some shit - and before you ask, yeah it's about you!"  She all but raged down the line and then ended the call before he could even explain himself.

He tried calling her back, but it went straight to voicemail. Leaving a message he hung up and sighed. Usually he wouldn't have given a shot about upsetting her but he supposed an apology was in order this time around.

Especially if he was going to be her plus one to her mom's wedding.....
