Kabanata 19
Eaten
"Tahimik mo?" nagtatakang tanong ni Laki, binabasag ang halos limang minuto'ng katahimikan na bumabalot sa buong opisina. "Nagsimula na ba ang event?"
"Yeah," tugon ni Ruin.
Francine left about five minutes ago when Laki and Ruin ignored her. Just the moment she stepped out of the office and the glass door shut closed, the whole room fell into the crevasse of stentorian silence.
Ruin did not tell us why she was here. Laki did not ask about it as if he did not really care.
In this comfortable position, Ate Sacred and I were currently occupying one of the office's seat. On the three-seater sofa to be exact.
Ate Sacred. She was years older than me. Seeing her, I could say that she was the definition of beauty. With that small face, having a soft angled high arch eyebrows, naturally upturned eyes, cat eyelashes, small pointed nose, cupid's bow shaped lips, and lastly, those hollywood style of healthy teeth made it all picture-perfect. She was tall, but not as tall as the men here, just the average height of a woman. Her body had the shape of an hour glass but not the exaggerated one.
She looked definitely young and gorgeous. A showstopping and pulchritudinous woman, people could mistaken her in the same age as mine.
The two men? There were at least two unoccupied one-seater sofas around, yet they chose to stand in front of us.
Laki questioned grumpily.
"Tayo, mga Cavanaugh. Kasali na ang mga Fortaleza, pati na rin ang mga Costales at Vicedo," Ruin responded in a very serious manner whilst facing Laki. How shocking to hear that he did not speak some vulgarisms. "Also Esperanza, De Dios and Ildefonso. Pero iilang De Dios lang yata ang pupunta," he added.
Inilibot ko ang aking paningin sa buong opisina.
Spacious with its high ceiling and less furnitures, the office's ambience and atmosphere was chortling of dullness and torpidity because of the choice of colour. All I could see here were the variety shades of gray. The walls, the glass, the floor and ceiling, even the few furnitures. Serious and sad, it resulted to seem empty.
Too much of using the colour gray would create feelings of sadness and depression. Also having the possibility that would evoke feelings of loneliness and isolation. It was Ruin's taste. I could tell, behind that active mood he had, he still felt heartsore in his own story that he would tell never.
Whoever the interior designer of this, I hoped that he or she did not lose his or her sanity after designing such space. Colours did affect people's mental health and wellbeing.
"Pupunta ba lahat ng mga pinsan natin?"
I was back in my senses after overthinking when I heard Laki's hard voice asking another question.
