~Miranda~
The next day at school I couldn't focus. I kept thinking about where I had seen that boy before. What was his name again? Daren! God it's so embarrassing that I can't even remember his name.
The thing that mostly puzzles me about Daren is his eyes. They seem to reflect the ocean at night. His eyes just bring me back to my horrible past though. I don't know why.
I went to see Samantha right before lunch.
"What's up with you?" She asked me. She always has a way of telling when something is wrong. It scared me sometimes.
"I'll tell you later" I respond. I didn't even look at her. I had dark bags under my eyes. I had stayed up most of the night just thinking.
When we got to the lunch room, we both got something to eat and sat down. I had a peanut butter and jelly uncrustable that I wouldn't even eat. I wasn't hungry. Sammy had a salad and was already shoveling it in her mouth.
"So" she started. "What's going on in your mind?" I didn't even know how to start. I thought for a moment then I knew just how to explain everything.
"Well I guess the best place to start is when I was little." I started to explain. The words seemed to just roll off of my tongue from that point.
~Daren~
Veronica and I sat down with the rest of the pack. We were just discussing the upcoming full moon. That's when I heard her.
I've trained my ears to pick up people talking from a mile away. I had paid close attention to Miranda as soon as I saw her blond hair.
I heard Miranda start to explain the story of when I first saved her. She doesn't know that I saved her though, so she called it luck.
Veronica shot me a look as I noticed my gaze had turned to Miranda. I immediately turned back. Veronica could stop me from looking at Miranda, but she couldn't stop me thinking about her.
~Veronica~
The whole day had been fine. Daren had been all mine. I got a little nervous when it came close to lunch time though.
When we walked into the cafeteria I noticed that girl wasn't there yet. I felt a little relieved. Daren and I got our food and sat down with the rest of the pack.
After a few minutes the horrid blond showed up. She had a friend with her. I paid close attention to both of them.
Miranda started to talk about something, so of course I listened. She spoke about when she was little she ventured into the woods. Suddenly I remembered her.
She was the only person who had gotten away from us. She trespassed in our woods and got away. I remembered being furious. No one had ever gotten away-let alone a little 7 year old girl.
I snapped back to reality as I noticed Daren starting to look at her, almost longingly. I was disgusted. I shot him a warning look. He quickly turned back.
I could tell Daren remembered her. I could also see that he felt something for her. My anger start to boil up inside me.The war for Daren had just begun and I am already positive I will be the last one laughing.
~Miranda~
Later that day I was getting ready to go home. I was putting all of my textbooks that I needed in my backpack. Chemistry, Math, History, and Science. I sighed.
Suddenly I felt the familiar feeling of eyes watching me. I turned around to see the icy blue watching eyes. Finally I had had enough.
"Can I help you?" I asked the boy. He jut stared back. Like he was trying to read my thoughts.
"Sorry" he answered with a voice like honey. I had never really understood what people meant by that before.
Next I did the impossible. I asked what has been on my mind, keeping me up all night.
"Do I know you from somewhere?" I felt better after asking the question.
He seemed to be thinking for a second. Finally he answered.
"I get around a lot. You probably saw me in town or something." His answer didn't satisfy me. I knew he was lying.
"O" I answered. I didn't want to sound like a weird stalker or something. He walked away and I finished packing up my bag.
Again I felt like someone was watching me.
"I thought you left-" I started, but when I turned around it wasn't Daren.
It was that girl that sat next to him all the time. Her almost black eyes were the complete opposite of Daren's. They seemed to scream anger at me.
"Um hello" I said. Her eyes seemed to fire up even more.
"Hello" she said with an evil smirk on her face. "I just stopped by to say that if you lay one finger on Daren, so help me I will rip you to pieces!"
I stood there with a shocked expression glued to my face. She just turned on her heels, attempted to smile sweetly, and walked away.
That's probably where most of my life's troubles started.
