I sat in shocked silence as Daren sped off to who knows where. He had a focused and angry expression on his face, like a bomb about to go off. I felt like if I moved he would explode.

"Where are we going?" I asked in a quiet voice. He didn't answer. He was starting to scare me a little. He must've noticed that because he relaxed a bit.

"Just...just promise me you won't do anything stupid" he said.

"What, you think I do a lot of stupid things?" I put in a bit of a demanding voice.

"Sometimes. Just be careful, ok?" He said. His eyes went softer and his grip on the steering wheel relaxed a bit more.

"Where are we going?" I asked again. He sighed in defeat. Point Miranda!

"To a safer place" he answered. Wow, that just clears everything up! Thanks Daren.

I just sighed and stared out the window. Suddenly my eyes felt heavy. I hadn't realized how exhausted I was. Soon enough, I fell asleep.

~Daren~

It suddenly got quiet in the car. I looked over at Miranda. She was fast asleep. Probably for the best. I wouldn't be sleeping as easily as her. The Hunters actually found her and she was so close to getting hurt. While I was watching her!

I took a deep breathe and relaxed. My shoulders felt sore. I guess I had gotten very tense. Now I know why she had gotten so upset.

My mind completely focuses on the road. I can't crash because I was thinking of keeping Miranda safe. How ironic would that be?

The paved black road twisted into a dusty dirt path. I pulled up slowly, not wanting to have rocks pop up and hit the car. A small, light brown house came into view. It wasn't anything like the pack house, but it was enough.

I drove up to the driveway an got out of the car. I pulled out my cellphone and called Veronica. Thank goodness she hadn't come home yet. Hopefully I could call her in time to warn the rest of the pack.

The phone rang for a second, but she picked up quickly.

"Hello" she said.

"Veronica! Don't go back to the house! Get the pack to the escape houses! Now!" I demanded quickly.

"What's going on, Daren?" Her voice sounded scared.

"They found her" I answered.

"I'm going now" she said.

I hung up and got back into the car. I closed the door silently, so I wouldn't wake up Miranda.

I honestly felt like crying or punching something. The pressure was getting to me. Suddenly a warm tear did go down my face. That was unexpected. I sat back and let the tears stream down my face. Nothing else to do right now.

~Veronica~

I transformed to my wolf quickly. I growled as I ran toward the pack house. I quickly spotted the couple of carpooling werewolf cars.

Before I knew what I was doing I jumped in front of the cars. I put my head down an closed my eyes as an ear deafening screech came up. I waited a second, my heart pounding, then slowly opened my eyes.

"What was that?" I could hear a small child ask. Probably one of the twins.

"Nothing. Sit down." An adult said calmly. The adult walked out so I could see her. She was tall and skinny with shiny gray hair.

"What the hell was that?!" She screamed at me. The lady threw a towel at me. I transformed back to my human form and wrapped the towel around me.

"We have to go to the emergency houses. Now." I demanded. Her eyes widened and she gave a signal to the drivers. She motioned that I get in the car.

The cars sped off down the road. It was quiet the whole trip. Soon enough I saw the houses. All of them painted the same way and hidden well enough.

As we got there, the pack got a worried expression on their faces. Parents were reassuring their children. Almost everyone was yelling or screaming, wanting to know what was happening.

All I said was one thing to make them all shut up.

"Hunters." The shocked and mixed expressions came on all their faces. Finally they all just went into the houses. Today was a tough day.

I woke up in the passenger seat of Daren's car. It was parked outside of a small house. I looked over to see Daren hunched over the steering wheel.

"Daren" I said. He looked up at me. His eyes were bloodshot and puffy. He had been crying. "Are you ok?" I asked.

He sniffed then said, "Ya. I'm fine." Of course he was lying, so I bent over and hugged him. He hugged back tightly and laid his head on my shoulder.

"Why can't I just keep you safe?" He asked me. Hi voice was muffled and sounded more like, "Why can't I hust eep oo afe?" I knew what he meant though.

"Daren, you've done just that though." I kept comforting him. I kept thinking of something else though. Safety isn't an option right now.
