~Daren~

We had all just finished 'talking' to the Hunters. I had never done this before so I was really nervous. What if they had jumped out and shot us? That wouldn't have gone by well with Miranda.

The cold winter night air brushed past me as I ran through the tall grass that didn't have much snow. I heard thunder rumbling over me and ran faster. Dark clouds began to cover the small bit of moon light that was guiding me to the pack house. I kept pushing myself to move quicker before a storm came in and I wouldn't be able to make it back. There were a few other wolves with me and they looked like they were thinking the same thing.

Run faster, I kept thinking. Soon enough I was panting very loudly. Lighting cracked across the sky and the last of the moonlight disappeared. Just keep running.

Suddenly I picked up a sweet scent. My smelling and hearing senses had become my only ways of guiding me to the house. The scent I picked up reminded me of something. What was it? I'm not sure but I might as well follow it.

I ran for about five more minutes before I spotted a warm, inviting light. I looked closer and saw I had found the house. Thank the stars I had found it! I ran up to a tree with a hole in it. I shifted back to my human form and quickly grabbed my clothes out of the hole. I slipped on my underwear quickly, then my sweatpants, and finally my tee shirt.

I jogged up to the front door and ran in. The warmth of the house felt amazing. I could still smell the sweet scent I had discovered on the way here, but now it was stronger.

"Daren! Where have you been?" Miranda asked. I turned toward her and she held me in a bear hug. I quickly hugged her back.

"Don't worry I've just been... out." I answered. She doesn't know about everything that's been going on. She doesn't need the stress of that either.

"I didn't know where you were and then the storm started and I saw lightning and-" I cut her off by kissing her lips. I pulled apart soon after.

"I'm fine." I said to her. She looked into my eyes and nodded. "Lets go get something to eat. I'm starving." I started to run off to the kitchen. I heard Miranda's feet lightly hit the ground as she ran after me.

I slid in front of our huge fridge and swung the door open. I grabbed turkey, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. Then I moved over to a cabinet and pulled out some bread. I quickly threw all of the ingredients together and made a sandwich for me. I heard Miranda giggling.

"What?" I asked with a mouth full of food. She began laughing harder.

"I've never seen you like this before" she answered.

"Neither have I."

"Did something happen while you were out there?" I froze as she asked this.

"No why would something have happened?" I tried to lie. It apparently worked as Miranda shrugged her shoulders.

"Never mind. I'm going to bed now. Good night." She turned and went to her room. I looked at the clock next to me. 1:27 a.m. Oops. I decided to go with Miranda and headed to my room and sleep.

~Miranda~

Sunlight filled in my windows and birds chirping filled my ears. I rolled over onto my side and looked at my alarm clock. 8:31 a.m. Ok I didn't sleep in super late. I decided to jump out of bed and get dressed.

I ran to my closet and rummaged through the selections and decided on a black tee shirt that says 'MIAMI' on it and a pair of jeans with a few holes in the knees. I picked up my brush and brushed out my long, blonde hair. After that I ran downstairs to get breakfast.

On my way there I stopped as I heard voices in the kitchen. I crouched behind the wall and listened.

"What? I'm not doing all of that for a girl that just got here. There's no way she's that important!" A lady who sounded a bit older, but healthy said.

"She's going to be turning any day now. Her birthday will be the day we start this 'war' and that could be when she turns. I just need you to watch her while this is all going on." A voice I recognized to be Veronica's said.

"I can fight too! You should pick someone who can't fight. One of the elders." The other voice argued.

"No! You have experience with helping people as they turn now do as I say or leave." Veronica stated down fiercely.

"Fine I will. You don't even like this girl! She stole your boyfriend and suddenly is the reason your pack is going to war. Why are you even keeping her here?" The voice said. There was a long silence next and I swear you could cut the tension with a knife. I decided this was my time to leave. I slowly got up when just to my luck my knee popped.

"Wait. Did you hear that?" Veronica asked. "Shh I think someone's listening." I froze. I'm caught, I kept thinking. Slowly I moved along the wall until I was in the living room and hid behind the wall there. I listened closely. The kitchen door swung open.

"I don't see anyone. Maybe it's your mind playing tricks on you." The other voice said.

"Ok. We'll discuss this further another time. We should head to training now." Slowly their footsteps made their way to the door. When I heard the front door close I let out a sigh of relief.

I walked up to my room and silently closed the door. Was I really such a bad person to make people not want to help me? I guess I did just kind of barge in.

"Miranda?" I looked up to see Daren.

"Come in" I said and motioned him to sit next to me on the bed. He sat and looked at me for a minute without saying anything. "What?" I asked him.

"Something's wrong. I can see it in your eyes. Tell me." He answered.

"Nothing." I lied. He looked thoughtful for a moment.

"It's because we're leaving tomorrow isn't it?" He asked me. Wait, they're leaving tomorrow? Well this is new.

"Yes" I answered somewhat honestly. Now that's part of the reason so it's technically not lying. Daren hugged me tightly.

"It'll be ok. I'll come back for you." He said. "I've got to go now though. Ill see you before I leave." He kissed my cheek and with that just left. I sat in silence once more. Yet again there was a knock at the door.

"Who is it?" I asked.

"Veronica."

"Come on in." She walked in and leaned on the wall next to my bed. "What can I help you with?" I asked.

"I just need to tell you a few things" She said a bit too nicely.

"Ok"

"First things first," her tone became much meaner, "Daren will be leaving tomorrow with me. He will then stay with me. You may not know this but Daren is meant to be mine and I'll see that that's how it ends. You can't tell him any of this because you know he won't believe you. 'Just being a jealous girl scared of what might happen while I'm gone, trying to keep me with her' is what he'll think. You better kiss him goodbye, doll 'cuz he'll be mine just like that!" She snapped her fingers when she said 'that'. My mouth hung open and she stormed out of the room.

This day just spiraled down the bad day charts so quickly.
