"Happy Birthday, love." Newt smiled, holding a mug of coffee. Thomas yawned and looked up at him from bed.
"What? I'm twenty two already?" He sat up. Newt sat down on the edge of the bed next to him.
"Yep. Guess what else today is."
"What?" Thomas took the mug and sipped the coffee.
Newt smiled even wider. "We've been living in this apartment together for two years today."
"Wait, wha- since when?"
"Uh, two years ago? Don't tell me you forgot." Newt's smile turned playful.
Thomas groaned. " 'Course I didn't."
Newt laughed. "We're going somewhere this evening."
"Oh really?" Thomas took another swig of coffee. "And where would that be, pray tell?"
"It's a surprise."
"Please tell me." Thomas finished the coffee and put the mug on the bedside table.
"Nope."
"Please?"
"No means no."
"Oh c'mon. A hint?"
"Definitely not."
"Pleeeease?"
"You'll enjoy it. That's all I'm bloody saying."
"You're so mean." Thomas grumbled.
Newt laughed again. "Oh, shut up."
"Make me."
"Okay." Newt leaned forward and kissed Thomas. "You can have more later." He said as he broke away. Thomas grumbled and slid down and pulled the covers over his head.
"Suit yourself. More bacon for me." Newt stood up. Thomas pulled the covers back.
"You made bacon?"
"Yeah, I know it's your favourite but if you're gonna stay in bed well then..."
Thomas immediately got out of bed and threw his arms around Newt's neck.
"You're the best." Thomas mumbled. "Now, where's that bacon?" He walked out of the bedroom.
Newt laughed and took the mug from the bedside table. "You're welcome!" He called when he heard Thomas whoop.
"Thanks!" Thomas called back.
(In the evening)
"Where are we going?" Thomas's knee bounced up and down. Newt placed his hand on it.
"Slim it, Tommy. We're nearly there."
Soon the bus pulled to a stop at the edge of a forest. They got off and started walking towards it.
"I don't recognise this forest, Newt." Thomas said.
"It's what's on the other side." Newt replied, vaguely.
They kept walking for another ten minutes and eventually they made it to the other side. It was a large lake, but the evening sun reflected off it and made it look even more beautiful, magical almost.
Thomas's hand crept up to his mouth. "Oh my God."
Newt grinned and took his other hand. "Happy birthday." He whispered.
They sat at the edge of the lake until the sun went down, and even then they stayed until the moon came, which was just as beautiful.
I really don't know what I'm doing.
