"Have you ever thought of adopting?" Thomas spooned his cereal thoughtfully.
Newt choked on his coffee. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Have you ever thought of adopting?"
"Like... adopting a kid?"
"Well no, a cow. Yes a kid. I'm just wondering." Thomas finally looked up at the blonde.
Newt waited before answering softly. "Tommy, I love you so so much and I would love nothing more than to someday start a family, just...not now. I want a couple more years of freedom and college before I finally accept the responsibilities of an adult."
Thomas nodded. "I know. It's fine. I'm just asking." Then he went back to spooning his cereal.
Newt could see his lover was saddened slightly, so he got up and walked behind Thomas, wrapping his arms around his neck, resting his head on his shoulder. "Did I make you sad?" He asked.
Thomas leaned back a bit into Newt. "No." He sighed.
"I think I did." Newt nuzzled the side of the brunette's neck with his face.
"You could never make me sad."
"I could if I tried."
"You won't try."
"No, I won't."
The pair stayed like that for a few minutes, in silence.
"I think... I think I'm just scared." Newt admitted.
"Of what?" Thomas looked at him.
"Well...if we were to one day be parents, I'm scared I'd be like my dad."
"Oh, Newt." Thomas turned around in his seat and pulled Newt into his lap, embracing him tightly. "You're nothing like him, you never will be. You'd be an amazing parent." Thomas stroked Newt's hair gently.
"Yeah, I'd be the overly protective mother and you'd be the fun loving father. The kids'd hate me." Newt laughed sadly.
"Don't say that. There's nothing wrong with being overly protective. My own mom could barely trust me to drive and look at me now."
Newt looked at Thomas sideways. "You're in a relationship with a limping, raging homosexual, talking about deep shit in the middle of bloody New York at nine am on a Friday morning and you haven't even graduated from college. Was that supposed to happen?"
"Okay, one, you'd be the greatest overly protective mother ever. Two, I wouldn't want to be in a relationship with any other limping, raging homosexual, and three, can you promise me something?"
"Anything."
"Can we maybe consider it? Can we wish on it?"
Newt looked Thomas right in the eyes. "I promise. We will adopt a child one day, even if it's the last thing I do. Swear on my life, Tommy. Swear with all my heart."
Tears moistened in Thomas's brown eyes. "Thank you Newt." He whispered and the tears spilled over.
"Tommy," Newt hugged him. "Why the tears, love?"
"I'm j-just h-happy." Thomas said between hiccups, wiping his eyes.
"Ssh, Tommy." Newt wiped away the tears that kept falling. "It's okay." Then he wrapped his arms around Thomas again and held him. After a few minutes he finally calmed down.
"I'm sorry." Thomas said.
"No, no apologising for crying. Remember," Newt tilted Thomas's face towards him. "I like boys who aren't afraid to cry. Don't say sorry, okay?"
"Okay." Thomas mumbled. "You know, I've always wanted a daughter."
"Then we'll have one."
"I love you, Newt." "I love you too, Tommy."
My dreams have been shattered.
Apparently it's really difficult to adopt children in Ireland.
Anyway hope your week goes well I hate Mondays
