Chapter 273 - The Source

EVE POV

I was standing right there, concentrating on the blast that Acnologia had launched down at Irene. Ever since I saw Acnologia and the other Dragon battling in the sky from where I was with Mavis, I knew that the other Dragon was Irene. I could feel the same familiar magic I had become familiar with during our time together back in Alvarez. I had separated from Mavis at that, and since the First Master had a plan to defeat Zeref from what she told me, I had decided to leave it in her hands.

If she had a plan to defeat Zeref, then I knew that I will be time to enact my own plan to take down the Black Dragon. It was the whole reason I had trained so hard during my time with Agnitio so that I could master my own magic and I knew that the moment I have been waiting for so long had finally arrived. I had stepped right in front of the blast Acnologia had send down toward Irene and looked up at the white light that was coming down toward me. Just by standing like that in front of Acnologia's breath attack causes me to look back to the last time I had faced it.

On Tenrou Island with Fairy Tail looking toward certain death as it was coming down toward us, and even in that time, I hadn't been afraid because that time I was standing side by side with Erza and my friends from Fairy Tail. It had been the one of the moments of my life I had understood how to stand unafraid of death…just like that time when I protected Erza from death against Jellal when we were in the Tower of Heaven.

And here I was again, standing in front of Irene looking at the blast coming down at me and I was as calm as if I was simply taking a stroll down the street. Raising both of my hands, I instantly took hold of the Ethernano that was within the attack coming down at me causing it to simply freeze in midair before it could reach us. Frowning lightly, I slowly joined my hands together willing the Ethernano within the breath attack to mimic me as it was growing smaller and smaller until it was nothing more than a ball of light in the air in front of me.

Glancing upward, I noticed the black Dragon flying above us, it's eyes fixed down toward us probably puzzled that I had managed to annul his own breath attack compared to the last time I had been at the end of it. Narrowing my eyes lightly, I instantly shoot it back upward toward the Black Dragon at a much greater speed and it collided with him, unleashing the full might of his own breath attack against him causing the sky to turn white with how much power there was within that attack. I smirked lightly for a few moments before a familiar voice spoke out toward me.

"Little bird…,"

Turning my attention, I found Irene's eyes looking at me with surprise despite the condition she was in. I instantly turned toward her and kneeled beside the redhead woman. She was looking at me like she couldn't believe that I was here in front of her. I gave her a soft sad smile.

"W…Why are you…?" she asked.

"Don't worry about it, my friend," I told her, "You just rest now. I will take care of Acnologia."

Irene seems to stare at me and there was this sudden light in her eyes. It was like she understood what I was implying, and I wouldn't put it pass her, after all, she is the only person that knew what type of spell I will have to use just to be able to accomplish what I was going to do.

"Don't…Don't do it," she whispered, her good hand taking hold of my clothes, "You…don't know…the price you'll have to pay for…"

"But I do know," I told her, "I knew it ever since this war began."

Irene's eyes had tears falling from it as she was looking at me, but I didn't look at her turning my attention to the side, "Mest, get over here."

The young man who had been with me along with Mavis appeared right beside me with his teleportation magic.
