"I will see you tonight

"I will see you tonight." Yang leaned against his bullet silver Mercedes. Wrapped in chrome foil, because he felt that standard gray did not reflect his bright personality. To which I replied that foil resembling a distorting mirror did indeed perfectly represent his joker-like persona. Yang had grimaced at that, but didn't dare argue with me. Everyone thought twice, even thrice, about what to say to me, afraid that I would end our friendship. Friendship.

"If you want, I don't have to go.." He crossed his long legs at the ankles with his arms folded in front of his chest. He was wasting my time. "I already shopped for my outfit this afternoon, It's in the back of my car, I can go with you? Maybe you need help with yours? Or a drink-in buddy, whatever you want."

I had known Yang Jeongin since kindergarten. He followed me around like a love struck puppy since day one. Apparently, I had left an impression on the boy. How? I didn't know at the time. It wasn't until years later when the innocent eyes, that every child has, disappeared, and I started to see more and more how the adult world looked like and what awaited me in the future.

I saw Yang with his mother, a well-known fashion designer, in the schoolyard, who whispered something in his ear and patted his butt encouragingly, steering him towards me. With the toe of his shoe drawing figures on the ground, he softly asked if I wanted a playdate. In a normal world, if I had been a normal boy, my heart would have jumped with excitement. But mine shriveled like a grape unprotected under the hot sun. Because when Yang and I could have fun, the parents could catch up over dinner. And that's what it was all about. That was what it was always about. About Hwang. Not Hyunjin. It was Yang's mother and father's eagerness that kept the boy stuck under my shoe like gum from day one to get in touch with my parents, as everyone else was trying to do. The only thing I was to them was a tool to gain social status.

And that was the reason that Yang tried to come to my apartment for the umpteenth time. He wanted to see more of me. Know more about me. Getting under my skin so he could get more money and power. And that was the reason no one had ever seen my home. That part was only mine.

"No, I'll see you tonight." The car blinked and beeped its good night and I waved a salut as I walked to my private elevator, my back already turned to Yang. As I did to everyone else.

My parents main estate was a hidden jewel in Seoul. Behind a ribbon of gray bricks was a six bedroom, two full bath, ten car garage and a swimming pool in the basement. The wooden garage door was the only indication that something was behind these walls.

The tri-fold garage closed behind the Urus taillights. I parked the green car next to my father's 918 Spyder. The trunk popped open as I got out and grabbed my mother's wrapped up Hèrmes bag. A wave of spotlights flickered on, led me to the door of the house.

"I'm home," I muttered out of habit, placing the gift for my mother on the white marble kitchen island. My fingertips traced the black veins in the marble. I opened the stainless steel refrigerator filled with only bottled water. I unscrewed the cap and walked with the bottle to my lips to the room where I knew my parents would be.
